Modify the organizational structure

You can change your organizational tree structure by adding, renaming, moving, or deleting an organizational unit.

Change organizational tree structure

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. From the Admin console Home page, go to Menu and then Directory and then Organizational units.
  3. Hover over the organization you want to modify, then follow the steps below.

Add an organization

  1. Click Create new organizational unit Create
  2. Enter a name under Name of organizational unit.
  3. (Optional) To add a description of the organization, enter it under Description.
  4. (Optional) To place the organization under a different parent organization:
    1. Under Parent organizational unit, click Edit Edit
    2. Choose a parent organization.
    3. Click Done.
  5. Click Create.

You can also add an organization by clicking Create new organizational unit Add a the top left of the Organizational units page.

Rename an organization

  1. More Settings and then Edit.
  2. (Optional) To rename of the organization, enter a new name under Name of organizational unit.
  3. (Optional) To add a description of the organization, enter it under Description.
  4. Click Update.

Move an organization

  1. Click Move organizational unit Move
  2. Select a new parent organization.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Review the information about moving the organization.
  5. Click Move.

Delete an organization

Click More Settings and then Delete.

You can't delete an organization if it has users, devices, or child organizations. Before deleting an organization, move any users and devices to other organizations, and remove any child organizations.
