Manage Marketplace apps access for users designated as under 18

This feature is only available with Google Workspace for Education editions.

As an administrator in the Admin Console, you can manage access to Marketplace apps for users in your organization.

You can also manage access to Marketplace apps for users who are designated as under 18. These apps will be blocked from accessing Google data unless you allowlist, admin install, or configure the apps in the Admin console. For details on allowlisting apps, go to Manage Marketplace apps on your allowlist. For information on admin-installed apps, visit Install Marketplace apps in your domain.

Important: Your organization is responsible for obtaining parental consent, as required, before allowing users under 18 to access third-party apps.

What happens if a user designated as under 18 is not allowed to access an app?

When a user under 18 tries to access an app that isn't allowlisted or admin installed, the user might be blocked and will see a message with the option to request access.

As an admin, you will see the request and be able to approve it in the Admin console at App access control.

You will need to allowlist Marketplace apps or admin install them to unblock access for users in the Admin console. For details on allowlisting, go to Manage Marketplace apps on your allowlist. For information on admin-installing, visit Install Marketplace apps in your domain.

You can manage access to apps for your entire organization, specific organizational units, or groups.

What happens if an app that was previously admin installed was updated?

When an app you installed is updated to include new API scopes, users under 18 will not be able to access the app until the new API scopes are granted. For details, go to Change the settings for an app.
