Benefits of using your YouTube Premium membership with YouTube Kids

There are several benefits to using your YouTube Premium membership with YouTube Kids. For example, you and your child can watch videos on YouTube Kids without any paid ads. You’ll also get access to downloads and Background play.

Watch videos without paid ads

You and your child can watch videos on YouTube Kids without paid ads. Videos uploaded by our users to YouTube Kids are not paid ads, so they’re not blocked from the app with the use of your YouTube Premium membership.

Downloads

When you use YouTube Premium on YouTube Kids, you can watch downloaded videos, even when you’re offline.

With Smart downloads, recommended videos will automatically download to your device so you can watch them without internet connection. This feature is turned on by default, which helps make sure that you always have access to watch great content on YouTube Kids.

To find the videos you’ve downloaded, visit the Downloads category on the YouTube Kids homescreen.

If you’re using Smart downloads, YouTube Kids will download up to 20 videos to watch when your device isn’t connected to the internet. Downloaded videos are updated every 24 hours when you have an internet connection. If you don’t have an internet connection for 30 days, your Smart downloads will be deleted.

Turn off Smart downloads

If you want to turn off Smart downloads:

1. Select the Lock  in the corner of your screen in the YouTube Kids app.
2. Complete the math problem or enter your custom passcode.
3. Select Settings .
4. Select Background & Downloads.
5. Turn Smart downloads off.

If you turn off Smart downloads, you can still handpick videos to download:

1. Go to the YouTube Kids app and find a video you'd like to download.
2. Tap More .
3. Select Download video.

Change download settings

1. Select the Lock  in the corner of your screen in the YouTube Kids app.
2. Complete the math problem or enter your custom passcode.
3. Select Settings .
4. Select Background & Downloads.
5. Turn on or off Download over Wi-Fi only or tap Download quality to adjust as needed.

Save downloads and delete specific videos

If you are using Smart downloads, you can save videos to your downloads so they aren’t removed when your Smart downloads update. To save specific videos to your downloads:

1. Go to the YouTube Kids app and find a video you’d like to download.
2. Tap More .
3. Select Save to downloads.

If you want to delete a video you previously downloaded:

1. Go to the YouTube Kids app and find a video you’d like to delete from your downloads.
2. Tap More .
3. Select Delete from downloads.

Delete all your downloads

If you want to delete all your downloaded videos:

1. Select the Lock in the corner of your screen in the YouTube Kids app.
2. Complete the math problem or enter your custom passcode.
3. Select Settings .
4. Select Background & Downloads.
5. Select Delete downloads

If you’re using Smart downloads and change your child’s content setting, then all current downloaded videos will be deleted. New videos will be downloaded from the updated YouTube Kids content setting.

Background play

Play videos while using other apps or when your screen is off. By default, Background play is off. To turn on Background play:

1. Select the Lock in the corner of your screen in the YouTube Kids app.
2. Complete the math problem or enter your custom passcode.
3. Select Settings .
4. Select Background & offline.
5. Turn Background play on.

Update to the latest version of the YouTube Kids app to make sure you have access to all the features included in your YouTube Premium membership.
