Accessibility on YouTube Kids

The YouTube Kids app works with the iOS accessibility feature that provides VoiceOver support for blind and vision-impaired users.

Getting started

To enable accessibility features in iOS: select Settings > General > Accessibility and toggle VoiceOver to on.

Navigate the app

Once you've opened the app, you can use two fingers to scroll from right to left to view family-friendly videos, channels and playlists.

  • Double-tap on any thumbnail to view the video or to explore the channel or playlist.
  • Double-tap the "Back" icon to go back.
Search for videos

Follow the steps below to search for videos:

  1. Double-tap on the "Search" icon. 
  2. Add your search query to the "Text field".

To use voice search, double-tap the "voice search" icon and speak your search query.

Play videos

Once you've found a video to play, double-tap to begin playback; the video will automatically go into full screen mode. Double-tap again to minimise a video during playback.

  • Skip ad: Double-tap the "Skip ad" icon to skip the ad prior to your video.
  • Pause: Double-tap "Pause video" to pause the video.
  • Next video: Double-tap the "Next" icon to play the next related video.

Below the video, you'll find related videos that will automatically play once your video has finished.

Set a timer

Follow the steps below to set a timer:

  1. Double-tap the "Parental control" icon in the bottom right-hand corner of any page.
  2. Tap the "Grown-ups only" menu and enter the numbers.
  3. Double tap the "Timer" icon.
  4. Double tap the "Decrease by one minute" button or "Increase by one minute" icon to set a time limit.
  5. Double-tap the "Start timer" icon.
Send feedback

Follow the steps below to send feedback about the app:

  1. Double-tap the "Parental control" icon.
  2. Tap the "Grown-ups only" menu and enter the numbers.
  3. Double-tap the "Feedback" icon.
  4. Enter your feedback in the "Write your feedback" box.
  5. Double-tap the "Preview" icon.
  6. Double-tap the "Send" icon.
Report inappropriate videos

Follow the steps below to report an inappropriate video:

  1. Go to the video that you'd like to report.
  2. Double-tap the "More actions" icon.
  3. Double tap the "Report" icon.
  4. Double tap the "Yes" icon.
Clear watch and search history

To clear watch and search history and remove the videos from Recommended and Watch it again:

  1. Double-tap the "Parental control" icon.
  2. Tap the "Grown-ups only" menu and enter the numbers
  3. Double-tap "Clear history". 
Audio settings

Follow the steps below to turn off the audio that plays within the app:

  1. Double-tap the "Parental control" icon.
  2. Tap the "Grown-ups only" menu and enter the numbers.
  3. Double-tap "Background music off" or "Sound effects off". 
Search settings

Follow the steps below to turn off search and limit available videos to videos selected by the app in the home screen, including Recommended and Watch it again videos:

  1. Double-tap the "Parental control" icon.
  2. Tap the "Grown-ups only" menu and enter the numbers.
  3. Double-tap "Search off".
Pause watch and search history
When you turn on Pause history, the app will stop using videos that you watch or terms that you search for as signals for Recommended and Watch it again. Pause history is enabled in the app's parental settings by moving the toggle to button to ON.
