Separate Tabs for Live Streams, Shorts, and Videos on the Channel Page
October 27th, 2022

Based on your feedback, we’re beginning to roll out separate tabs for live streams, Shorts, and long-form videos on all channel pages. We’ve heard that this will make it easier for viewers to discover the kinds of content they’re most interested in when exploring a creator’s channel page, so we’re excited to bring this to you all!
  • Live tab: You’ll find all streams in this tab including any that are currently active, upcoming, or archived.
  • Shorts tab: Here you’ll only see Shorts. When you are watching Shorts in the Shorts feed and navigate to a creator’s channel from the feed, you will be directed right to this new tab to keep enjoying Shorts!
  • Videos tab: This will continue to house long-form content
This update begins to roll out today and moving forward, you’ll no longer see Shorts or live streams in the Videos tab. In the coming weeks, you’ll find the new Shorts and Live tabs next to the classic Videos tab across all devices.

🎉 Convert Clips into Shorts on Mobile
September 1st, 2022
We love how you’ve been using Clips to capture some of the best moments from live streams and videos on YouTube. Starting today, you’ll be able to instantly create Shorts from your Clips right on your mobile devices!

In case you’re not familiar with Clips or have Clips disabled on your channel: they are 5-60 second looping segments that viewers create from your content.

To test this out:
  1. Watch/create a Clip of a video or live stream that you previously uploaded (belongs to your channel).
  2. Click on the 'Create Short' icon visible in the header of the Clip panel
  3. The content of the Clip is now imported into the Shorts creation experience
  4. (Optional) Make more edits to the new Short by trimming and cropping the original Clip
  5. (Optional) Add filters and text using the Shorts creation experience
  6. Name and publish the new Short, made with the help of a Clip
Note: You’ll be the only one who can import Clips of your content into Shorts. For now, other users won’t be able to make Shorts from Clips of your content, but we’ll share more updates on planned features in the coming months.

🎉 Channel Permissions for Live Control Room
January 20th, 2021
We know running a successful stream can often involve multiple people behind the scenes, so we’ve recently expanded YouTube Studio channel permissions to also include access to Live Control Room, helping you better manage your live streams across a variety of people and roles.
  • Access levels through Studio channel permissions will now determine the type of access you give in Live Control Room (LCR).
    • This means that now those with “manager” and “editor” roles can now help moderate chat from directly within LCR, as well as schedule or start/stop live streams.
    • Those with “viewer” permissions can monitor live stream analytics and data in LCR but won’t have access to stream keys, or be able to manage live stream settings.
Full details of each role and their levels of access in LCR listed in a table here.

🎉 Clips Metrics in YouTube Analytics
November, 22, 2021
We’ve recently added Clips metrics into YouTube Analytics to show how views from Clips help contribute to your channel’s performance.
  • You can see new two new Clips metrics “Clip views” and “Video watch time from Clips (hours)” in Analytics
You can find this info at either the video or channel level by clicking “Advanced Mode” or “See More” to pull up your expanded analytics report. From there, you can change the metric in the chart, and under “See more”, you’ll now see these two new Clips metrics.
