How are YouTube Charts calculated?

YouTube Charts break down the most viewed music on YouTube by song, video, artist, and Shorts.

  • Top Song charts rank song performance on YouTube, based on overall view count. YouTube generates daily and weekly charts for Top Songs by combining official song views across the following video types:
    • The official music video
    • User-generated content that uses the official song
    • Lyric videos
  • Top Music Video charts rank official music performance by video view count. YouTube generates daily and weekly charts for Top Music Videos.
  • Top Songs on Shorts rank the top 50 songs featured in Shorts. Songs are ranked based on the total number of Shorts created that feature the song. YouTube generates daily and weekly charts for Top Songs on Shorts.
  • Weekly Top Artists ranks the top 100 artists by total views. An artist’s total views are based on the combined song views attributed to the artist on YouTube.

To make sure that YouTube Charts reflect the most relevant movements in music, songs that have been charting for a few months and do not show significant viewership growth may be removed from YouTube Charts per our policies.

Note: Paid advertising views on YouTube don’t count toward YouTube Charts.

Music Insights shows you what’s popular in cities and regions around the world. Use the Insights tool to view top artists in a given location, or to find out where an artist’s music is trending.

  • Lyric videos
Note: Shorts views are excluded from the total view count.

Charts information on YouTube Music

When a song is charting in Weekly Top Songs, and Daily or Weekly Top Songs on Shorts Charts, you’ll see its chart rank right next to the song title on YouTube Music.

Chart ranking is prioritized in the following order:

  1. Daily Top Songs on Shorts Chart
  2. Weekly Top Songs and Weekly Top Songs on Shorts Charts
Note: We're exploring new ways to show a song’s presence and reach on YouTube Music. You might notice some users seeing the Charts information, while others continue to see "plays" during this testing phase.
We’ll prioritize showing a song’s ranking in your country’s local charts.
  • If the song is not charting in your country, we’ll show its position on the global chart.
  • If the song is charting on both local and global charts, we’ll show the higher position of the two.
  • If the song’s local and global chart positions are the same, we’ll show the global chart ranking.
