If you want to watch videos offline without using your phone or tablet’s internal storage, you can save videos directly to an SD card. If your device does not use an SD card, videos will save to your device’s internal memory.
Confirm your eligibility to download
You can download videos if:
- You’re a YouTube Premium member.
- You live in a country where video downloads are available.
- You want to download a video that you uploaded.
Save videos to your device’s SD card automatically
Before you start, install an SD card on your phone or tablet.
- Open the YouTube app

- Tap your profile picture
.
- Tap Settings
.
- Tap Background & downloads.
- Turn on Use SD card.
Can I move videos I’ve already downloaded to an SD card?
Currently, there is no option to move downloaded videos between your device’s internal storage and an SD card. To change the location of a downloaded video:
- Delete the video from its current location. Learn how to remove a downloaded video.
- Follow the steps above to save videos to your device’s SD card.
- Download the video again.
Note: Make sure that there’s enough space available on the SD card to save the video.
