Get started with YouTube VR

The YouTube VR app allows you to easily find and watch 360 videos and virtual reality content with certain headsets and devices.

Note: The instructions below are for users with the Daydream View controller. Learn more about the YouTube VR app’s system requirements and availability.

Sign in

YouTube VR supports a signed in experience, giving you access to several benefits, like viewing your subscriptions.

Sign in

  1. From the home screen, click Account.
  2. Select Sign In.
  3. Select the account you’d like to use.

Sign in to Oculus Go and Oculus Quest

  1. From the home screen, click Account.
  2. Click Sign In.
  3. You’ll see an activation code.
  4. On your computer or mobile device, go to https://youtube.com/vractivate .
  5. Enter the activation code.
  6. Sign in when asked. If you have several Google Accounts, select the account you use with YouTube. If you’re already signed in, skip to the next step.
  7. Once signed in, you’ll be automatically signed in on your Oculus Go or Oculus Quest device.
Note: Brand Accounts are not currently supported on the Oculus Go and Oculus Quest.

Sign out

  1. From the home screen, click Account.
  2. Select the account you'd like to sign out of.
  3. Click Sign out.

Browse videos

You can browse videos on the Home screen or in playlists by scrolling up and down on the touchpad. You can get to the Home screen at any time in two ways.
  1. Click the App button on your controller.
  2. Click the Grid "" with your player controls.

Search for videos

You can search for videos in YouTube VR in two ways: Voice Search or keyboard search. Search is found in the player controls Menu or from the Home screen.

Voice Search

  1. Click Search Search .
  2. Select Voice.
  3. Say your search term out loud.


Keyboard search

  1. Click Search Search .
  2. Select Keyboard.
  3. Enter what you're looking for.

You can filter your search results by choosing from one or more of the following selections: 360°, 3D, Live, 4K, and CC.

Player controls

While playing a video, click the App button on your controller or click the touchpad to access the player controls.

The player controls allow you to perform many actions:

  • Change volume (You can also change the volume by clicking + and - on the right side of the controller).
  • Go to the previous video.
  • Go to the next video.

You can also change your viewing settings in the player controls Menu.

Note: If you are using an Oculus Quest 2 or Quest device, you can use your hands in place of your touch controllers by turning on Hand Tracking

Turn captions on or off

  1. Click Settings Settings .
  2. Click Captions.
  3. Select the desired language.

Change video quality

  1. Click Settings Settings .
  2. Click Quality.
  3. Select the desired video quality.

Turn Curved screen on or off (for non-360 videos and ads)

  1. Click Settings Settings .
  2. Select Curved screen and turn On or Off.

Change Environment

  1. Click Settings Settings .
  2. Click Environment.
  3. Select the desired environment.

You can also Zoom in or out on non-360 videos.

  1. To zoom in, slide your finger up on the touchpad.
  2. To zoom out, slide down your finger on the touchpad.

To dismiss the player controls, click the App button or touchpad again.

Re-Center your view

You may find that the cursor or view drifts off in one direction. The cursor and view can be quickly re-centered using the controller.
  1. Aim the controller forward.
  2. Hold down the Home button on your controller.
