Troubleshoot YouTube error messages

When YouTube can't complete the action you’ve taken, an error message may appear on your device. There are many root causes of error messages, many of which are out of YouTube’s control, including a bad internet connection and insufficient memory on your device.

Some of the most common error messages are:

  • “There is no network connection right now (Retry).”
  • “Please check your network connection (Retry).”
  • "Error loading. Tap to retry."
  • “No Connection.”
  • “500 Internal Server Error.”

If you receive an error message, there are some simple steps you can take to fix the error.

Follow the instructions below for the YouTube app or mobile site.

YouTube App

Common error messages on Android are:

  • “There is no network connection right now (Retry).”
  • “There is no network connection right now. Please try again later (Retry).”    
  • “Please check your network connection (Retry.)”
  • “No Connection.”

There are some simple steps you may take to fix the error.

  • Make sure your phone isn't on airplane mode. 
  • Connect to WI-FI, LTE, or 3G (if available).
  • Make sure data usage is enabled for YouTube.
  • Restart the app.
  • Try viewing the video on a different device.
  • Make sure you've downloaded the latest version of the app.
  • Update your operating system.
  • Try viewing the video again in 30 minutes.

Mobile web

Common error messages on mobile web are:

  • “An error occurred.”
  • “An error occurred while performing this operation.”
  • “Oops! Something went wrong.”

There are some simple steps you may take to fix the error.

  • Refresh the page.
  • If you have many browser tabs open, try to close most of them except for the one you’re using for YouTube.
  • Make sure your phone isn't on airplane mode.
  • Connect to WI-FI, LTE, or 3G (if available).
  • Restart your browser app.
  • Restart your device.
  • Try viewing the video on a different device.
