How to Create on YouTube: Videos, Shorts, Mobile Live Streaming, & Posts from your phone
Create a post
To create a post:
- Tap Create Post.
- Add text.
- Select image , poll , or quiz depending on the type of post you’d like to create.
- Select Post.
We limit how many posts a channel can create in a 24-hour period to protect the YouTube community. If you run into a “limit reached” error message, try again in 24 hours.
Schedule a post
To schedule a post:
- While creating your post, in the top-right corner, tap the clock.
- Choose a date, time, and time zone to publish the post.
- Select Done.
- On the post creation page, click Schedule.
Share a video in a post
To share a video in a post:
- Go to the video that you want to share.
- Tap Share Share.
- Tap Create post.
- Type your message and tap Post or .
Share a playlist in a post
To share a playlist in a post:
- Open the playlist that you want to share.
- Select More Share.
- Tap Copy link.
- Tap Create Post.
- Paste in the playlist URL and tap Post.
Create a live stream post
- From the home screen, tap Create .
- Tap Go Live Public.
- Choose a title, then tap Next.
- Select a thumbnail for the post.
- Tap Share Create a post.
- Add post text, then select Post.
- Tap Go Live.
- To end the stream, tap Finish.
Mention other channels in a post
You can mention other YouTube channels in your posts by entering @ followed immediately by their handle or channel name. The channel may get a notification that you’ve mentioned them. Viewers can click the mention from any device and go directly to that channel page.
Learn about types of posts
Text posts
To create a text post, enter your message in the text box on the Community tab of your channel. You can post your text by itself, or with a video, image, or GIF. Text posts can’t be combined with polls.
Playlist posts
If you have the Community tab turned on, you can post playlists from artists that you enjoy. Copy and paste the playlist URL into your post.
Image and GIF posts
You can choose to upload up to 5 images with your post. Tap image to select images or animated GIFs.
If you have access to the Community tab, you can also add text, stickers, and filters to your image post through the YouTube App.
Guidelines
- Size: Up to 16 MB
- File types: JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP
- Suggested aspect ratio: We suggest 1:1 ratio because that's how images are shown in the feed. Viewers can see the full image by clicking to expand it.
Only use images that you have permission to use. You can also include text with your image post. Keep in mind that images must follow YouTube Community Guidelines. If images violate Community Guidelines, your post may be removed and a strike may be applied to the channel.
Video posts
If you choose to add a video to your post, you can:
- Search for a YouTube video
- Paste in a YouTube video URL
- Select a video from your YouTube channel
When you create a post that shares a video by another creator, a notification may be sent to the original uploader of the video. This notification helps creators acknowledge when other creators are sharing their videos.
Polls
If you choose to add a poll to your post:
- Select either Text or Image poll.
- For Text polls:
- Enter a question in the "Ask your community..." field.
- Enter answers in the "Add option" fields within 65 characters each.
- Tap Add another option to add up to 4 answers.
- For Image polls:
- Enter a question in the "Give a shoutout!" field.
- Upload images as options, and add captions within 36 characters in the “Option” fields.
- Tap Add option to add up to 4 images.
Quizzes
If you choose to add a quiz to your post:
- Enter a question in the text field.
- Enter answers in the “Answer” fields. Answers can be up to 80 characters each.
- If you need more answer fields, tap Add answer. You can have up to 4 answers.
- Select the correct answer. You can add an optional explanation for why this is the correct answer in the text field. Explanations can be 350 characters max.
