Watch videos on iOS without Internet
If you lose Internet connection while using the YouTube app on iOS, you may see an error message in the video player or Home, Trending, Subscriptions, or Library tabs. If the error appears while you're watching a video, you won't be able to use the app even if the tabs seem to be working correctly.
To resume using the app
- Make sure you're connected to the Internet.
- If you're not connected to Wi-Fi:
- Go into the Settings app on your device.
- Check that Cellular Data is turned on for YouTube.
- Try disabling and re-enabling your network connection.
- In the YouTube app, pull down to refresh the screen.
- Restart the app if needed.
Download videos on mobile to watch offline with YouTube Premium
If you're signed in to your YouTube Premium account, you can watch videos that you've previously downloaded. You'll find these videos in the Library tab. Some actions, like commenting and liking, are only available when your device is online.

In select locations, certain videos on the YouTube mobile app are available to download for offline playback during periods of low or no connectivity. You'll find these videos in the Library tab.
You must be signed in to use the Download feature. Some features, like commenting and liking, are only available when your device is online.
Downloaded videos can be played offline for up to 48 hours. After that, you'll need to reconnect your device to a mobile or Wi-Fi network every 48 hours to allow the app to check for changes to the video or its availability.
Note: In some countries, non-music content can be played for up to 29 days without requiring an internet connection. You must reconnect to the internet at least once every 29 days after.
