Use the Content Verification Tool

Note: If you don’t have a Content Verification Program (CVP) account yet, fill out this form to check your eligibility.

The Content Verification Tool is found in Studio Content Manager. To access it, make sure you're signed in to your Content Manager account.

The tool lets you search through publicly available YouTube videos to find videos that include your content. You can then submit copyright takedown requests for the infringing videos.

Find videos that match your assets

To search for videos that match your assets:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Manual claiming .
  3. In the filter bar , enter keywords, video IDs, or select a filter.
    • Use the minus symbol "-" to exclude keywords from your search.
    • You can also search by @username or channel ID to find videos from a particular uploader.
    • You can select from these filters:
      • Allowlisted (whether the video is/isn’t on your allowlist)
      • Channel ID
      • Claim status (whether it is/isn’t claim by you or others)
      • Livestream (whether the video is/isn’t a livestream)
      • Publish date
      • Reviewed (whether the claim has been reviewed)
      • Video length (<4 minutes, 4–20 minutes, or >20 minutes)
    • Once you’ve selected your filter, click APPLY to filter the search results.

  4. In the search results list, you can click Sort by in the top-right to sort the results based on Relevance, Published date, or Total views.
Tip: At the bottom of the page, click the number next to Rows per page to change it from 30 (default) to 10, 50, or 100.

Submit copyright takedown requests

Before submitting a takedown, make sure you understand what personal info becomes a part of a copyright takedown request.

Submit a takedown

  1. On the Manual claiming page, in an expanded row, click the Takedown tab at the top of the row.
  2. Click SELECT ASSET. A pop-up window will open.
  3. Using the tabs at the top, you can choose Select asset to choose an existing asset or Create asset to make a new one. Learn more about creating assets.
  4. Once you’ve selected an existing asset from the list, click SELECT. Or, if you’re making a new asset, click CREATE.
  5. In the Signature box, enter your first name and last name (not a company name).
  6. Under Acknowledgment, read the statement, then click the checkbox to acknowledge the statement.
  7. Click TAKEDOWN.

Submit multiple takedowns

Some partners can submit takedown requests in bulk. To request takedowns of more than one video on a single asset:

  1. On the Manual claiming page, click the checkboxes next to the videos you want to submit a takedown for.
    • To select all videos on a page, click the checkbox above the search results list.
    • If you searched by video ID or video URL, we support bulk takedowns of a maximum of 100 videos. To do this, at the bottom of the page, make sure the number next to Rows per page is set to 100.
    • If you need to perform a bulk takedown of videos from a specific keyword search, you can select a maximum of 50 results.
  2. At the top of the page, click TAKEDOWN.
  3. Follow steps 3 through 6 above.
  4. Click SUBMIT.

Retract copyright takedown requests

To retract a takedown submitted through the CVP tool:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, click Claimed Videos .
  3. Find the video from your original takedown request. You can click the filter bar  and select a relevant filter to find the video faster.
  4. Click the video’s title. A pop-up window will open.
  5. In the Claims on video section, click Takedown. A new pop-up window will open.
  6. In the top-right, click RETRACT 1 TAKEDOWN.
