Manage channel settings

Google Analytics linking going away: The ability to link your channel to Google Analytics will be discontinued on 17 November 2020. You can continue to use YouTube Analytics to understand your audience and monitor the performance of your channel. If you already have a link set up, you can view your updated channel page data until 1 February 2021. You also have the option to export a report.

You can manage your channel settings in YouTube Studio. Change everything from your country/region to your channel's visibility.

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. From the left-hand menu, select Settings .
  3. From the left menu, select Channel.
  4. Set the channel settings and select Save.

Advanced channel settings

Set your channel's audience

Simplify your workflow by selecting a channel setting. This setting will affect existing and future videos. If you choose not to select a channel setting, you'll be required to identify each video on your channel that's Made for Kids. Settings for individual videos will override the channel settings.
This will also restrict certain features on your channel. If you aren't sure whether your videos are Made for Kids, take a look at this Help Centre article.

Google Ads account linking

You can link your YouTube channel to a Google Ads account to allow ads to run based on interactions with your channel's videos and give access to insights. Learn more.

Automatic captions

You can choose to replace potentially inappropriate words with an open bracket, two underscores, and a closed bracket '[ __ ]' by default with automatic captions.

Subscriber Count

You can display the number of viewers subscribed to your channel by selecting this option.

Advertisements

Personalised ads based on viewers' interests or remarketing ads will be turned off if you select this option. This may reduce your channel's revenue. In addition, earned action reports and remarketing lists will stop working for your channel.
Channel redirect

You can use a shortened version of your custom URL to redirect your audience to another channel. In the Redirect URL field, enter the URL of the website that your redirect URL should lead to.

Note Redirect URLs are available to partners and advertisers who have this feature turned on by their partner manager or sales representative.

For example, if your URL is www.youtube.com/c/YouTubeCreators, you can get your shortened URL (www.youtube.com/YouTubeCreators) to send viewers to the YouTube Nation channel by entering www.youtube.com/user/youtubenation or www.youtube.com/channel/UCUD4yDVyM54QpfqGJX4S7ng in the Redirect URL field.

Conditional redirects

You can redirect people who are visiting your channel to another channel based on their language, location, age or gender.

Note: Conditional redirects are available to partners and advertisers who have this feature turned on by their partner manager or sales representative.

For each row, you can add a rule to set the conditional redirect. Rules are matched from top to bottom, and the first rule that matches a user is applied. Here are the rules that you can apply:

  • Language and location: Specified by full or partial locales (en_us, en_ or _us).
  • Ages: Specified by a comparison (<, <=, >, >=) and a number.
  • Gender: Specified with m or f.
  • Destination: Either a channel name or _block. Users that match the _block destination will be redirected to /Channels.

Example conditional redirects

Example redirect Redirect result
en_,Channelname Keeps all English speakers on this channel.
,Channelname Keeps all users on this channel.
_us,<21,_block Blocks all users who are in the United States and under the age of 21 from visiting this channel.

_us,>=21,f,Channelname

_block

Keeps all users who are in the United States, 21 years old or older and female on this channel and blocks all other users.
Channel visibility

You can temporarily make your channel hidden by selecting this option. Your videos, playlists and channel details will no longer be visible to viewers.

As a channel owner, you can still see:

  • Your channel page
  • Your channel art and icon
  • Your videos and playlists
  • Your comments and analytics
  • Your community posts

You can make your channel visible again anytime and your content will be public to viewers.

Note: Channel visibility is available to partners and advertisers who have this feature turned on by their partner manager or sales representative.

Other settings

You can manage your presence on YouTube and permanently remove your content with these settings.

Associate a website with your channel

If you're the channel's manager, you can associate your official website with the YouTube channel. This lets you incorporate signals from your website's page rank on www.google.com into YouTube's search algorithm.

  1. Enter the URL in the Associated website field.
  2. Click Add.
  3. Confirm the association in Google Search Console by following the instructions on how to choose a verification method.
