Refund policy

Paid channels will be going away on January 1, 2018. You'll no longer be charged for any existing subscriptions starting December 1, 2017. Learn more about discontinuing paid content

Refunds may be available for the following YouTube services and memberships.

Movie & show purchases or rentals

If you've purchased or rented a movie or TV show on YouTube, you can return or cancel your purchase anytime within 7 days of purchase if you have not started to play the video. If you haven't watched your show or movie, you can request a refund directly from the Purchases tab of the YouTube app or website. 

If you ordered content or features that are defective, unavailable, or do not perform as stated, you may contact our support team to request a refund at any time. When a refund is granted, we'll revoke access to the content and your money will be returned within the refund timelines listed below.

YouTube Red 

You may cancel a YouTube Red membership at any time. Once you cancel, you will not be charged again. Note that you won't be refunded for the period of time between when you cancel and when your membership officially ends.

If content or features related to your YouTube Red membership are defective, unavailable, or do not perform as stated, you may contact our support team to request a refund at any time. We do not provide refunds or credits for partially elapsed billing periods.

If you're a YouTube Red member who signed up via iTunes, you’ll need to contact Apple support to request a refundfor your YouTube Red membership. Apple’s refund policy will apply.

Paid channel subscriptions & sponsorships

You may cancel your paid channel subscription or paid sponsorship at any time. Once you cancel, you will not be charged again. You will have access to your paid channel subscription or sponsorship until the end of the billing cycle. Note that you won't be refunded for the period of time between when you cancel and when the subscription or sponsorship officially ends.

If content or features related to your paid channel subscription or paid sponsorship are defective, unavailable, or do not perform as stated, you may contact our support team to request a refund at any time. Once your refund is processed, your access may be terminated immediately. We do not provide refunds or credits for partially elapsed billing periods.

Super Chat

Super Chat voluntary payments are non-refundable. If you notice an unauthorized Super Chat charge on your account, please contact our support team.

If you purchased a Super Chat on an iOS device, you'll need to contact Apple Support to request a refund. Apple's own refund policy will apply.

Donations

Donations are non-refundable. If you're having trouble with a payment, you may contact our support team.

Refund timelines

Refunds from YouTube are returned to the payment method used to make the original purchase. Refunds take different amounts of time depending on how you paid.
If your refund is taking longer than expected, check your refund status on your Google Payments account. If the status is "Refunded," you will see a credit on your form of payment. If the status is "Canceled," the order was never charged and you will not see a credit on your form of payment.

35 business days

Processing time can be affected by the card issuer and sometimes takes up to 10 business days. 

If your credit card is no longer active, refunds will go to the bank that issued your card. Contact the bank to recover funds.

Direct carrier billing (prepaid / pay-as-you-go)

1–7 business days

Processing time can be affected by your carrier and sometimes takes longer.

Direct carrier billing (postpaid / contract)

1–2 monthly statements

Processing time can be affected by your carrier, but refunds will usually appear within 2 monthly billing statements. If it takes longer, contact your carrier to check the status.

Google Play balance (gift card or credit balance)

1 business day

Refunds appear in your Google Payments account. Occasionally this can take up to 3 business days.

Google Wallet balance

1 business day

Refunds appear in your Google Wallet account. Occasionally this can take up to 3 business days.

Online Banking

4–10 business days

Processing time depends on your bank, but typically takes between 4 and 10 business days.

PayPal

3–5 business days

This can sometimes take up to 10 business days. If you're returning the money to a payment method within PayPal (like a linked bank account), contact PayPal for more detailed information.

iTunes If you purchased your YouTube Red membership through iTunes, you'll need to contact Apple support to get more information on the status of your refund.
