Troubleshoot refund issues on YouTube

Having trouble requesting a refund for your YouTube purchase? Check out these common issues to help troubleshoot and fix your issue.

Why was my refund rejected?

A refund may be rejected if the purchase in question does not fall within our stated refund policies. Note that we do not offer partial refunds for Annual memberships, or refunds on movies/shows that have already been viewed. We also don’t offer refunds on some purchases, such as Super Chat.

YouTube purchases made through the Apple store require authorization from Apple and are subject to their refund policies.

As such, we can’t grant refunds for purchases made on an Apple device or through Apple billing. Get in touch with Apple support  to request a refund.

I’m getting an error when I try to request a refund

When will my refund be issued?

Refunds from YouTube are returned to the payment method used to make the original purchase. Most refunds are processed within 5 business days, with a few exceptions:

Estimated refund time

Direct carrier billing (prepaid / pay-as-you-go)

1–30 business days

Your carrier affects processing time and sometimes takes longer.

Direct carrier billing (postpaid / contract)

1–2 monthly statements

Your carrier affects processing time, but refunds typically resolve within 2 monthly billing statements. If it takes longer, get in touch with your carrier to check the status.

Online Banking

4–10 business days

Processing time depends on your bank, but typically takes 10 business days or less.

iTunes

If you purchased YouTube Premium using iTunes, get in touch with Apple support to check your refund status.

If your refund is taking longer than expected, check your refund status on your Google payments account.

  • If the status is "Refunded," you'll find a credit on your form of payment.
  • If the status is "Canceled," the order was not charged and you will not find a credit on your form of payment.

How do I request a refund for Super Chat / Super Stickers / Super Thanks / a Donation?

Super Chat, Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Donations  are voluntary payments and are non-refundable.
