Why is Dark Mode not available for the 'Google Search' but it is for the 'Google Search Help'? 0 Recommended Answers 44 Replies 2438 Upvotes

I am not looking for a 3rd party app or program to make a Dark Mode for me. What I am wanting is what others have had for awhile now. A native dark mode for the Google Search page. Yes I know Chrome can do it, but I need a better, more full featured browser for work (And sometimes play) where I end up having a glaringly white screen due to Google Search screens.
Microsoft recently added a native Dark Mode, iOS added one, even my Android phone has a dark mode for everything.  So why do I have to hurt my eyes simply because I prefer to use Google for my search engine?

Google Search doesn't currently offer a "dark mode" for desktop.

Yes, I know. That is not what I was asking at all.

"Dark Mode" is available on chrome, and on mobile, and google help, but for some reason it is  not on the desktop search. What my question was, was why not? Why do we not have it? I would go so far as to ask, "When will we get a Dark Mode for desktop?".

I do wonder why you would answer my question like this.  Were you not paying attention or was it intentional to ignore my question and to try to pass off a cut & paste answer?

Try "Dark Reader" Add on from Chrome Store

As to why the web search does not have an internal setting?? I'm not sure myself. YouTube even has a dark mode so you'd think the main search engine would too.

Thanks Dave! that worked brilliantly.
Why is google search so bright?? they need to enable a dark mode for google search like they do for youtube.
Hoepfully this experimental feature does not mess with my browsing experience on other websites.

Ironically, it's available for support.google.com too... On the bottom right of my browser I see a little sun icon that allows me to "Enable Dark Mode"

This works perfectly for me and doesn't invert colors oddly like the //flags setting does:
