Manage your Google Podcasts

Tip: To get the latest Podcasts features, update the Google app.

Download episodes

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. Tap a podcast and then an episode and then Download Download.

Auto download episodes

You can automatically download new episodes of your favorite podcasts.

  1. While in Google Podcasts Google podcasts, tap Home Home.
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial.
  3. Tap Podcast settings and then Auto downloading.
  4. Turn on Auto download new episodes.
  5. Under "Your Subscriptions," turn on podcasts you want to auto download.

Change when downloads are removed

By default, Google Podcasts removes downloaded episodes:

  • 24 hours after they finish
  • 30 days after they download

To change these times:

  1. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Settings Settings.
  2. Tap Remove completed episodes and pick when.
  3. Tap Remove unfinished episodes and pick when.

Remove downloaded episodes

To remove:

  • A specific episode:
    1. Tap the episode.
    2. Tap Downloaded Downloaded and then Remove download.
  • All downloaded episodes:
    1. Tap Activity Activity and then Downloads.
    2. Tap More More and then Remove all.

Unsubscribe from podcasts

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Activity Activity and then Subscriptions.
  3. At the top right, tap Edit Edit.
  4. To unsubscribe from:
    • A single podcast: Next to the podcast, tap Unsubscribe Unsubscribe.
    • Multiple podcasts: Select each podcast, then tap Unsubscribe multiple Unsubscribe multiple.

Add a podcast to your home screen

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. Open the podcast’s page.
  3. Tap More More and then Add to home screen.

To remove a podcast from your home screen, drag it to Remove.

Set sleep timer

You can set a sleep timer to keep your place while you listen to an episode.
  1. While you listen to a podcast, at the bottom, tap the episode.
  2. Scroll to the bottom, then tap Sleep Sleep.
  3. Set a timer or tap End of this episode.
  4. Tap Start.

Manage other podcast settings

Use Google Podcasts in Dark mode

Dark mode is available on Android 9 and up.

On Android 10 & up

  1. Open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Display.
  3. Turn on Dark theme.
If Google Podcasts doesn't apply the dark theme, try setting the theme for your Google app to "System default." Learn how to change your Google app settings.

On Android 9

To turn on Dark mode, turn on battery saver on your device. Learn how to turn on battery saver.

Go to a podcast's site

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. Open the podcast’s page.
  3. Tap Visit website Visit website.

Donate to a podcast

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. Open the podcast’s page.
  3. Tap $ Donate to open a donation page.

Tip: Not all podcasts have a donation page.

How personalized recommendations work

If you’re signed in to your Google Account, Google may recommend podcasts. Recommendations are based on your listening history in Google Podcasts and, if you have "Web & App Activity" turned on, your activity across Google products. Learn how to control activity in your account.

To turn personalized recommendations on or off:

  1. On your phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  3. Under “Explore,” turn Show personalized recommendations on or off.
