Find, translate & manage content in the Google Go app

You can find web pages, images, and more from the Google Go app. Google Go works quickly on a variety of devices and internet connections.
Google Go is the default search app on Android Go devices.

Check if you have the latest app version

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, go to the Google Goapp Google Go.
  2. Tap Update. If "Installed" appears, you already have the latest version.

Search for web pages, images, GIFs & more

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. Tap a category like Search, Images, or GIFs.
  3. Search for something, then tap Go.

Search with your voice

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. From the search bar, tap Microphone .
  3. Say your search.

To do a voice search from the homepage, tap Voice search.

Read, listen, and search with Lens Go

With the Lens Go feature of Google Go, you can use the camera on your phone to translate written words, read them aloud in their language of origin, and search the web for similar phrases.

Translate text in a photo

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the right of the search bar or in the “Top Apps” section, tap Lens .
  3. Take a photo of the words you want to understand.
  4. Once Lens has processed the image, tap Translate .

Translate  defaults to your language of choice in Go.
Tip: At the top right, you can change your translation language if you tap More and then Change translation language.

Listen to the text in an image

Once Lens Go interprets an image’s text, you can have it read aloud.  
  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the right of the search bar or in the “Top Apps” section, tap Lens .
  3. Take a photo of the words you want to hear.
  4. Once lens has processed an image, at the bottom, tap Listen .
Tip: You can also listen to translations.

Find info about objects around you

Once Lens Go interprets an image’s text , you can perform an internet search with the text. 

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the right of the search bar or in the "Top Apps" section, tap Lens .
  3. Take a photo of the words you want to search.
  4. Once Lens has processed an image, at the bottom, tap Search .
Tip: You can also perform a search with translations.

Discover updates about your interests

You can get updates for your interests, like your favorite TV show or sports team.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the top, tap Discover , or swipe right from the home screen.

Change other settings

Add or remove apps & sites

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. Add, remove, or reorder an app or site:
    • Add
      1. Under "Apps," tap Add .
      2. Find your favorite app, then touch and hold it. The app will be added to your home screen.
    • Remove
      1. On the home screen, find the app you want to remove.
      2. Tap and hold the app icon and then Remove.

To find more sites and apps, swipe left from the home screen and tap a category at the top of the "All Apps" page.

Get search results in another language

To search in another language you need to first add a new language.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the top right, tap Settings .
  3. Under “Languages,” tap Choose a second language for Search.
  4. Choose a language.
  5. Search for something, then tap Go.
  6. Above the search bar, tap the language you want to get results in.

Manage your Google Go settings

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the top right, tap Settings .
  3. Choose a setting to update:
    • Wallpaper: Customize your wallpaper.
    • Languages: Change the language of the app or add a second language for Search.
    • Data: Use lite mode to show basic web pages and save data.
    • Account: Switch to a different Google Account, manage your search history and other Google Account activity.
    • Notifications: If you’re searching offline or have issues connecting to wifi, get notifications when a web page has loaded or when search results are ready.
    • SafeSearch: Filter explicit search results.

Delete your Web & App Activity

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. At the top right, tap Settings .
  3. Under “Account,” tap My activity.
  4. Above your history, tap Delete Down arrow and then Delete all time.

Translate web pages in Google Go

You can translate any page through Google Go. This makes it easier to quickly switch a page to your selected language.

Translate web pages

You can translate pages using the translation bar. It'll appear at the top of pages that have a different language than your language settings. 

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.

  2. Go to a web page written in another language.

  3. In the translate bar, tap the language you want to translate to.

  4. If you don’t see the translate bar,  tap Menu Menuand then Open translation options.

Change your translation language

You can select the language to translate a page in your language settings. Learn how to change your language in the Google Go settings.

Always translate pages

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.
  2. Go to a web page in the considered language.
  3. In the translate bar, tap the language you want to translate to. 
  4. Tap Close Close.
  5. Tap Yes to “Always translate [original language] pages to [selected language]?”
    • Pages in the selected language will automatically be translated from now on and the translate bar will disappear.

  6. If you don’t see the translate bar,  tap Menu Menuand then Open translation options.

Stop translating pages in a specific language

You can change back to the original language if you’ve previously decided to always translate a page to a selected language.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Go app Google Go.

  2. Go to a web page in the considered language. 

  3. In the translate bar, tap the original language of the page. 

  4. Tap Close Close.

  5. Tap No to “Translate [original language] pages in the future?”

    • Pages will no longer be translated and the translate bar will disappear.

  6. If you don’t see the translate bar,  tap Menu Menuand then Open translation options.

Beta test Google Go

If you have an Android device and want to test experimental features of Google Go before they’re released, you can join the beta tester program.

Sign up for beta testing

Important: The beta version of Google Go might be unstable and have a few minor problems, known as bugs. We ask that you don’t publicize or share the features you’re testing until they’re publicly launched.

To be part of the beta testing program:

  1. Visit the testing program opt-in page and sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Click Become a tester.
  3. In the "Get the testing version" section, follow the on-screen instructions to start using the beta version.

Stop beta testing

  1. Visit the testing program opt-out page and sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Under "Leave the testing program," click Leave the program.
  3. Update to the newest version of Google Go when it's available. A new version is released about once per month.

Leave feedback

By beta testing, you’ll become an important part of the app’s development. Your participation and feedback will help us release a better version of the app.

Tip: If you use an early access or beta app, you won’t be able to leave public reviews on the Play Store for that app.

To leave feedback:

  1. Open the Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. Find the app you want to provide feedback for.
  3. Tap the app to open the detail page for the app.
  4. Under the "Private feedback to developer" section, tap Write feedback.
  5. Leave your feedback for the developer.
  6. Tap Post. Only the developer will see the feedback, not other users.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have both a beta version of the app and a regular version?

You can have only one version of Google Go installed on your Android device.

Will I lose any data if I switch to the beta version?

Switching to the beta version is the same as a typical update, so you won’t lose any data or settings.
