Google app won't display search results

If search results aren't showing up in the Google app on your Android device, you might need to change some settings. You can resolve errors such as:

  • "Unfortunately Google Search has stopped working"
  • "The request was not performed because there was no connectivity"

Follow these steps until you find the solution to your problem. Note: Settings might vary by device.

Step 1: Try fixing your Internet connection

1. Make sure your device isn't in Airplane mode

Airplane mode turns off Wi-Fi and mobile networks on your device. If you see an airplane icon at the top of your screen, Airplane mode is on.

To turn off Airplane mode:

  1. Open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap More.
  3. Turn off "Airplane mode."

Try your search again to see if search results show up now.

2. Check your Wi-Fi connection

If you're trying to use Wi-Fi to connect to the Internet, you might need to adjust your Wi-Fi settings.

To turn on Wi-Fi and choose a network:

  1. Open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Turn on "Wi-Fi."
  4. Choose a network and enter a password if asked.

A Wi-Fi icon should appear at the top of your screen. Try your search again to see if search results show up now. If they don't, see troubleshooting tips below.

If the icon has a "?": Wi-Fi is turned on, but you haven't connected to a network. Follow the steps to turn on Wi-Fi and choose a network.

If the icon has a "!": You're connected to a Wi-Fi network but not to the Internet.

  • Make sure you've chosen the right network.
  • If you're using a public Wi-Fi network (like at a cafe or airport), you might need to enter a password or sign in. Try opening a webpage in your browser to see if there's a sign-in screen.
  • If the Wi-Fi modem is yours, restart it. If that doesn't work, contact your Internet provider.

If the icon is partially filled or blinking: Your device has a weak connection to the Wi-Fi network or it's still trying to connect.

  • Make sure you've chosen the right network.
  • If you know where the router is, move closer to it to get a stronger signal.
  • If the Wi-Fi router is yours, restart it.

If Wi-Fi still doesn't work: You might need to use a mobile data connection instead. Turn off Wi-Fi and try your search again to see if search results show up now.

3. Check your mobile data connection

When Wi-Fi isn't available, you can connect to the Internet with a mobile data connection.

To check your mobile data connection:

  • Open your mobile browser and try loading any webpage. If the page doesn't load, follow the steps below.

To turn on mobile data:

  1. Open the Settings app  Settings.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap Data usage.
  3. Turn on "Cellular data" or "Mobile data." If it was already on, turn it off, then on again.

At the top of your screen, you should see your signal strength and type of data connection (like LTE). Try your search again to see if search results show up now. If they don't, or if you see a no-signal icon, try the troubleshooting tips below.

1. Get to an area with better coverage

You might be in an area without coverage. For example, underground and rural locations sometimes don't have mobile data connections. If you can, move to a different area and check your signal strength.

2. Contact your mobile service provider

If your device often has problems with mobile data connections, get in touch with your service provider.

Step 2: Try fixing the Google app

1. Restart the Google app
  1. Open the Settings app  Settings.
  2. Under "Device," tap Apps or Application manager.
  3. Select Google AppForce stop > OK.

Try your search again to see if search results show up now.

2. Restart your device
Restart your device, then try your search again to see if search results show up now.
3. Update the Google app

If you can connect to the Internet, update the Google app to the latest version.

Try your search again to see if search results show up now.

4. Clear your Google app cache

When you clear an app's cache, you delete data stored in a temporary area of the device's memory. This action won't delete any permanent files.

To clear your Google app cache:

  1. Open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Device," tap Apps or Application manager.
  3. Select Google App.
  4. Under "Storage" or "Cache," tap Clear cache.

Try your search again to see if search results show up now.

5. Clear your Google app data

When you clear an app's data, you permanently delete all of the app's data, including files and settings.

To clear your Google app data:

  1. Open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Device," tap Apps or Application manager.
  3. Select Google App.
  4. Under "Storage," tap Manage spaceClear Google search data.

Try your search again to see if search results show up now.

Keep in mind that many problems resolve on their own. If you followed these steps and search results still don't show up, try again in a few hours.
