Make Google my default search engine

Make Google your default search engine so that anytime you search your results will come from Google. If you don't see your browser listed, check its help resources for information about changing search settings.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
  2. In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop down menu.

Internet Explorer 8+

Find out which version of Internet Explorer you're using by clicking Help and then About Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 10 and 11

  1. Click the gear icon in the top right corner of the browser window. 
  2. Select Manage add-ons.
  3. Select Search Providers.
  4. In the bottom left corner of your screen, click Find more search providers
  5. Select Google.
  6. Click the Add to Internet Explorer button.
  7. When the window appears, check the box next to Make this my default search provider.
  8. Click Add

Internet Explorer 9

  1. Click the Tools icon in the top right corner of the browser window.
  2. Select Internet options.
  3. In the General tab, find the Search section and click Settings.
  4. Select Google.
  5. Click Set as default and click Close

  1. Find the search box in the top right corner side of your browser. Click the down arrow next to the magnifying glass icon.
  2. Click Find More Providers
  3. Click Google
  4. Check the box next to "Make this my default search provider."
  5. Select Manage Search Providers.
  6. Click Add


  1. Click the down arrow in the small search bar on the top right side of your browser.
  2. Select Google.


  1. Click the magnifying glass in the upper left corner of the search bar.
  2. Select Google.
