Make Google my default search engine

Make Google your default search engine so that anytime you search, your results will come from Google. If your browser isn’t listed below, check its help resources for information about changing search settings.

Google Chrome

Computer

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. In the top right corner of the page, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
  3. In the "Search" section, select Google from the drop-down menu.

Mobile

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. In the top right corner of the page, touch the Chrome menu Chrome menu > Settings.
  3. In the "Basics" section, touch Search engine.
  4. Select Google.
Microsoft Edge
  1. Using your device's browser, go to Google.com.
  2. In the upper right corner of your browser, select More actions (...) > Settings.
  3. Scroll down to "Advanced settings," select View Advanced settings.
  4. Scroll down to "Search address bar with," open the list, and select <Add new>.
  5. Select www.google.com > Add as default.
Internet Explorer 8+

Tip: Find out which version of Internet Explorer you're using by clicking Help > About Internet Explorer.

Internet Explorer 11

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. In the top right corner of the search box, click the down arrow.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Select Google.
  5. Click Add to Internet Explorer.
  6. Check the box next to"Make this my default search provider."
  7. Click Add.

Internet Explorer 10

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. In the top right corner of the page, click the gear icon.
  3. Click Manage add-ons.
  4. On the left side of the page, click Search Providers.
  5. In the bottom left corner, click Find more providers.
  6. Select Google.
  7. Click Add to Internet Explorer.
  8. Check the box next to "Make this my default search provider."
  9. Click Add.

Internet Explorer 9

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. In the top right corner of the browser, click the Tools icon.
  3. Click Internet options.
  4. In the General tab, find the "Search" section and click Settings.
  5. Select Google.
  6. Click Set as default.
  7. Click Close.

Internet Explorer 8

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. In the top right corner of your browser, click the down arrow in the search box.
  3. Click Find More Providers.
  4. Click Google.
  5. Check the box next to "Make this my default search provider."
  6. Click Manage Search Providers.
  7. Click Add.
Firefox
  1. Open Firefox.
  2. In the small search bar in the top right of your browser, click the magnifying glass .
  3. Click Change Search Settings.
  4. Under "Default Search Engine," select Google.
Safari
  1. Open Safari.
  2. In the upper left corner of the search bar, click the magnifying glass.
  3. Select Google.
Android browser
  1. Open your browser app. It might be called Internet or Browser.
  2. Touch the Menu button on your phone or in the top right corner of the browser.
  3. Touch Settings > Advanced > Set search engine.
  4. Touch Google.
