After you get access to Search Labs, you can try a new way to search to find what you’re looking for in faster, easier ways with SGE (Search Generative Experience). You can explore a wide range of content and perspectives and dive deeper to learn more.
What you need
- Android phone.
- Latest version of the Google app
. Get it on Google Play.
- Be 13 or over. If you’re under 18, Search Labs and select experiments are available in the US and in English only.
- A personal Google Account that you manage on your own. For now, Search Labs and its experiments are not available to Google Workspace accounts, including Google Workspace for Education accounts.

Turn on SGE
Important: After you turn on SGE, it can take some time for the experiment to show up.
- On your Android phone, open the Google app
.
- Make sure you’re signed in to your Google Account with Incognito mode turned off.
- At the top left, tap the Labs icon
.
- On the SGE card, turn the experiment on
.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Get AI-powered overviews in search results
After you turn on SGE, you may find AI-powered overviews and can ask follow-up questions in Search.
- On your Android phone, open the Google app
.
- Make sure you’re signed in to your Google Account with Incognito mode turned off.
- Do a search on Google. If an AI-powered overview is available, it will show at the top of search results.
- For some searches: You’ll have the option to generate an AI-powered overview.
- For other searches: AI-powered overviews won’t be available.
- To ask another question in the new conversational mode:
- Under the “Overview,” tap Ask a follow up.
- Enter your follow-up question.
Tip: Try asking questions to unpack a topic that has different angles to consider. Find a range of relevant information, options, or viewpoints.
Export from SGE to Google Workspace
Important: If you export from SGE (Search Generative Experience), Google Search saves the AI-powered information and your search query to your Google Drive or Gmail. When you export, it does not grant Google Search any additional access to your Google Drive or Gmail.

- Below the AI-powered overview, tap Export
Google Docs.
- This saves a new document in your Google Drive with your search term as the title.
Important: Images are currently unavailable for export to Gmail.
- Below the AI-powered overview, tap Export
Draft in Gmail.
- This creates a draft email in Gmail with your search term as the email subject.
- Below the AI-generated image, tap Export
Google Drive.
- This creates an image file with a descriptive name in your Google Drive.
Give feedback
Give feedback about a specific AI-powered overviewIf you get an AI-powered overview that you feel is unsafe, not helpful, inaccurate, or bad for any other reason, you can let us know by submitting feedback. Your feedback will help this experience improve.
- At the bottom of the overview, tap
if an overview is helpful or
if an overview needs improvement.
- If you select needs improvement
, select a reason and enter any additional feedback.
- Tap Submit.
- On your Android phone, open the Google app
.
- Make sure you’re signed in to your Google Account with Incognito mode turned off.
- At the top left, tap the Labs icon
.
- At the bottom of the SGE card, tap Feedback.
