Manage your Google Podcasts settings

On your mobile device, you can manage your Google Podcasts settings, like:

  • Auto download new episodes or remove old ones from your subscriptions.
  • Get or stop subscription notifications.
  • Get or stop personalized podcast recommendations.
  • Autoplay an episode after your current episode is over.
  • Choose a light or dark theme.

Auto-download episodes from your subscriptions & queue

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Downloads,” tap Auto-download.
  5. Under “Global settings,” choose your preferences. You can auto-download:
    • New episodes from your subscriptions.
    • Only when on WiFi.
    • Episodes in your queue.
  6. Under “Your subscriptions,” turn on the podcasts you want to auto-download.

Change when downloads are removed

By default, Google Podcasts removes downloaded episodes:

  • 24 hours after you finish them.
  • 30 days after you download them.

To change these settings:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Podcasts app Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
    • For completed episodes, tap Remove completed episodes and choose a time period.
    • For unfinished episodes, tap Remove unfinished episodes and choose a time period.

Manage notifications for your subscriptions

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Notifications,” tap New episodes from your subscriptions.
  5. Next to each subscription, turn notifications on or off.

Turn personalized recommendations on or off

When you’re signed in to your Google Account, Google might recommend podcasts based on:

  • Your Google Podcasts history.
  • If you have Web & App Activity turned on, your activity across Google products.

To turn personalized recommendations on or off:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Explore,” turn Show personalized recommendations on or off.

Play episodes continuously with Autoplay

Important: Google Podcasts only plays an episode once and won’t add an episode if you’ve already played it.

To turn on Autoplay:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Playback,” turn on Autoplay.

Autoplay from queue

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Google Podcasts Google podcasts.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Podcast settings.
  4. Under “Playback,” turn Autoplay from queue on or off.

Use Light or Dark mode

Important: Based on your device settings, Google Podcasts activates a light or dark theme.

To change the display theme:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Display & Brightness.
  3. Under “Appearance,” choose Light or Dark
