How to fix massive Wear OS bootloop on Fossil Gen 5 0 Recommended Answers 22 Replies 63 Upvotes

So basically I got a Fossil Gen 5 in December of 2019. It was a really great watch until now. The watch is stuck on a boot loop and does not stop, all that shows is the Fossil logo over and over again. I tried recovery mode and it said "NO COMMAND". Nothing is working. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Edit: I charged the watch for 1 hour, then the bootloop continued and then it said it was dead.

Try this:
  • Press and hold all 3 buttons for about 45 seconds, or until it vibrates 4 times.
  • Then wait for 10-15 seconds.
  • Next, press and hold the middle button for about 10 seconds, until it vibrates once.
It should turn on at that point.

If the bootloop returns, contact the Fossil support team.

I just did that and it showed the bootloader four times.
Then I waited 10 to 15 seconds and held the power button for 10 seconds, still nothing.

Small little edit
I try to use the bootloader but it's like it is on a timer and will not even work at all.

Yes , I received the following response
“ For further support, please make sure that:
  • The power button is not getting stuck, it still can be pressed in and out normally.
  • You've removed all of the incompatible apps if you have installed some on the app.
Then, kindly follow below steps to see if it helps:

1. Let your smartwatch completely run out of battery.

2. Charge it correctly until it reaches 100% following these tips:
  • If the device is too hot when charging, remove your device out of the charger and wait until it’s cool again, then retry to charge.
  • Try changing to more stable power source, i.e. move to wall outlet instead of laptop. Keep it charging for a while, it should stop rebooting.
  • If it doesn't work, allow your watch to charge for 15 minutes, then try turning on the watch by pressing and holding the crown while your watch is still on the charger.
  • If it still doesn't boot up, please leave it on charger for 1-2 hours to see if it helps.
3. After that, please restart the watch by pressing and holding down the power button for 7 – 10 seconds until the device vibrates, then release the button.”

Hasn’t helped unfortunately

Sounds like you push them for an RMA. You're still under warranty, right?

I have been having this issue on and off for the past few months.

The first time it happened, I followed @Jim Dantin suggestion and it worked like a charm on the first try (Thanks a bunch, Jim!!)

I went a month or two w/o any hiccups, then it happend again. Followed the same steps, worked perfectly. Few weeks went by then I hit it again.

Unfortunately I'm at a point now where it enters the boot loop nearly every day (twice today), making the watch borderline unusable.

I contacted Fossil support, hopefully I have better luck with them than others in this thread. My watch is just under a year old.
