Track your heart rate with your watch

You can use a Wear OS watch to take heart rate measurements. In the Google Fit app, you can track your heart rate for a workout or over time.

Important: Fit won’t save heart rate data for children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country).

Get started

To monitor your heart rate, you need a watch with a heart rate sensor. Some examples include:

  • LG Watch Sport
  • Huawei Watch 2
  • Montblanc Summit
  • Fossil Q Control
  • Misfit Vapor

You can also use a Bluetooth heart rate sensor, like a chest strap.
Note: This feature is only available on Wear OS 3 and below.

Check your current heart rate on your watch

Navigate in your watch

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. To get a list of your apps, press the Power button.
  3. Open the Google Fit Heart Rate app Google Fit.
  4. Tap Measure.  
    • Wear 2: Open the Google Fit app. Scroll and tap Read heart rate. If it’s not there, this isn’t available on your watch.
  5. Hold still while the watch reads your heart rate.

Check your heart rate during a workout

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. To find your heart rate info, swipe to the last screen.
  3. At the top of the screen, you’ll find a heart rate zone gauge that ranges from positions such as Low, Moderate, or Intense. 
    • You can earn Heart Points when your heart rate zone is in the Moderate and Intense zones.
Set up a Bluetooth heart rate sensor
  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Make sure Bluetooth on your watch is turned on.
  3. Open the Google Fit Heart Rate app Google Fit.
  4. Tap Settings  Settings and then Bluetooth sensors.
  5. Select your device. 
    • If you can't find your device, tap Scan.
  6. If necessary, give Fit permission to use your sensor.

Tip: When the sensor tracks your heart rate, Bluetooth  shows next to the BPM on your watch.

Note: Bluetooth heart rate sensors are only supported on Wear OS 3 and below.

On your phone:

  1. Open the Google Fit Heart Rate app Google Fit.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home.
  3. Scroll and tap Heart rate.
  4. Choose a time frame to review your heart rate data.
Check your daily heart rates

On your watch:

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. To get a list of your apps, press the Power button.
  3. Open the Google Fit app Google Fit.
  4. To find your heart rate, scroll to the "Heart rate" section.

On your phone:

  1. Open the Google Fit app Google Fit.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home.
  3. Scroll and tap Heart rate.
  4. Choose a time frame to review your heart rate data.
Fix a heart rate monitor that’s not working

If your heart rate monitor isn't working, try these steps:

  1. Tighten the watch strap around your wrist, or adjust the fit of your Bluetooth sensor.
  2. Make sure the back of the sensor completely touches your skin.
  3. Keep still. Sometimes, moving makes the sensor inaccurate.
