Check for updates on your watch

To get the most out of your watch and ensure that all features work correctly, make sure the system and apps are on the latest version.

Note: This article is to check for updates on your smartwatch. On your phone, the version number is for the Wear OS by Google app. It's not the same as your watch.

Check for system updates

Before you start, make sure your watch is connected to Wi-Fi and has a Google Account on it.

  1. From your watch's Settings screen, tap About Information.
  2. Scroll down and tap System updates.  

If there are any updates, your watch will download the update. Otherwise, it will say that your watch is already up to date.

Update the apps on your watch

You can check for and download updates if you follow the steps below.

  1. On your watch, open the Play Store Google Play.
  2. If necessary, follow the instructions to connect to Wi-Fi and add a Google Account.
  3. Swipe down from the top of your screen and tap My Apps My Apps.
  4. If you see Updates available, tap Update all. Otherwise, your watch apps are up to date.

(Recommended) Get updates automatically

To ensure your watch and apps stay up to date, your watch needs to have a Google Account and connect to Wi-Fi while charging. To check this:

  1. On your watch, open the Play Store Google Play.
  2. If necessary, follow the instructions to connect to Wi-Fi and add a Google Account.
  3. Make sure the watch is switched on whenever you charge it.

If you still don't get updates, check that automatic updates are enabled in the Play Store:

  1. Make sure your watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
  2. On your watch, open the Play Store Google Play.
  3. Swipe down from the top of your screen and tap Settings Settings.
  4. Make sure "Auto-update apps" is selected.

Check your watch version

If you need to check your watch's version, swipe down from the top of your watch's screen.

If you see Settings Settings:

Check your version number by following these steps.

  1. Tap Settings Settings and then System.
  2. Tap  About Information and then Versions.

If you see a Wear OS version number on this screen: 

Your watch uses Wear OS by Google. You'll see your Wear OS version and other useful information. 

If you don't see a Wear OS version number on this screen:

Your watch uses another version. You'll see "Home app" or "Android Wear," alongside your version number.

If you don't see Settings Settings

Your watch uses Android Wear version 1.5 or below. To check your version number:

  1. Swipe left on the pull-down menu and tap Settings Settings.
  2. Tap About Information and then Versions.
