Fix issues with setting up your watch

If you’re having trouble connecting your watch to your phone or to the Internet, try the steps below.

 

Fix your device connection

The last step for each troubleshooting solutions is to connect your watch and phone. If you still can't connect your watch after one solution, try the next one.

Make sure that your phone and app are up to date

1. Check for Android updates

Learn how to update your Android version.

2. Check for Wear OS updates

Learn how to update the Wear OS by Google app.

3. Try to set up your watch and phone again

If you updated your phone or app, try to connect your devices again.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS by Google app Wear OS by Google.
  2. At the top of the screen, tap the drop-down arrow Drop-down arrow.
  3. Select Add a new watch.
  4. To finish reconnecting your watch, follow the instructions on your phone.
Check your Bluetooth connection

1. Make sure that your phone's Bluetooth is turned on

  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Tap Connected Devices and then Bluetooth.
    • On some devices, you can find it under 'Connected devices'.
  3. Check that Bluetooth is turned on.

2. Make sure that your watch is not in Aeroplane mode

  1. If you can't see your screen, wake up the watch.

  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left to see this option.
  4. Tap Connectivity.
    • If you don't see this option, skip this step.
  5. Scroll down until you see Aeroplane mode.
  6. Check that Aeroplane mode is turned off.

3. Try to set up your watch and phone again

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS by Google app Wear OS by Google.
  2. At the top of the screen, tap the drop-down arrow Drop-down arrow.
  3. Select Add a new watch.
  4. To finish reconnecting your watch, follow the instructions on your phone.
Restart your watch and phone

1. Restart your devices

  1. If you can't see your screen, wake up the watch.

  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left to see this option.
  4. Tap System.
  5. Scroll down and tap Restart Restart and then Done Finished.
  6. Restart your Android phone.

2. Try to set up your watch and phone again

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS by Google app Wear OS by Google.
  2. At the top of the screen, tap the drop-down arrow Drop-down arrow.
  3. Select Add a new watch.
  4. To finish reconnecting your watch, follow the instructions on your phone.
Reset your watch
If you've tried all of the solutions above and still have issues, disconnect your watch and reset it to factory settings. You can then set up your phone and watch from the start.

Note: When you reset your watch to factory settings, apps, settings and data on your watch will all be erased.

1. Disconnect your watch from your phone

  1. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on for your phone.
  2. On your Android phone, open the Settings app Settings.
  3. Under 'Connected devices', find the name of your watch. It may be listed under Previously connected devices.
    • On some phones, you first need to tap Bluetooth.
  4. Next to the name of your watch, tap Settings Settings and then Forget

2. Disconnect your watch from the Wear OS app

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS by Google app Wear OS by Google
  2. At the bottom, tap Advanced settings and then Forget watch.
  3. To confirm, tap Forget watch.

3. Delete your watch from your phone

  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app Settings.
  2. Make sure that Bluetooth is turned on for your phone.
  3. Tap Connected devices and then Previously connected devices.
  4. Next to the device that you want to forget, tap Settings and then Forget. 
  5. To confirm, tap Forget device.

4. Reset your watch to factory settings 

  1. If you can't see your screen, wake up the watch.

  2. From the top of the screen, swipe down and tap Settings Settings and then System.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left to see this option.
  3. Scroll down and tap Disconnect and reset Disconnect and reset.
    • If you don't see this option: Tap Unpair with phone Unpair with phone.
  4. To confirm, tap Done Done.

5. Try to connect your watch and phone again

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS by Google app Wear OS by Google.
  2. At the top of the screen, tap the drop-down arrow Drop-down arrow.
  3. Select Add a new watch.
  4. To finish reconnecting your watch, follow the instructions on your phone.
If you’re still having trouble: Uninstall the Wear OS app and reinstall it. Then try again.
