Fix issues with setting up your watch

If you’ve synced your watch and phone before, you might need to complete extra steps to set them up again.

First, make sure your phone and watch are:

  • Powered on

  • Close together

  • Not in Airplane mode

It takes too long to set up my watch

You might need to wait several minutes for your watch and phone to share info.

If you still find “Getting watch details” or “Finishing…” on your phone after 20 minutes, try the steps below.

Important: The steps below are for Wear OS and may vary based on your manufacturer, device, and software version.
Make sure your phone and app are up-to-date

Try to set up your watch and phone again

After you update your phone or app, try to connect your devices again.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.

    Tip: If you use the companion app for your device, follow the companion app instructions.

  2. At the top, tap the Down arrow Drop down arrow And then Add a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.
Check your phone's Bluetooth connection
  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices. Then, if you see Connection preferences, tap it.
  3. Tap Bluetooth.
  4. Check that Bluetooth is turned on.

Remove the watch from Bluetooth memory

  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices and then Previously connected devices.
  3. Tap the name of the watch you want to remove.
  4. Tap Settings Settings and then Forget and then Forget device.

Set up your watch and phone again

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.

    Tip: If you use the companion app for your device, follow the companion app instructions.

  2. At the top, tap the Down arrow Drop down arrow And then Add a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart your watch and phone

Turn your devices off and on again

  1. On your watch, press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds or until the watch shuts down.
  2. Restart your Android phone.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.

    Tip: If you use the companion app for your device, follow the companion app instructions.

  2. At the top, tap the Down arrow Drop down arrow And then Add a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.
Reset your watch
If you tried all of the solutions above and still have issues, disconnect your watch and reset it to factory settings. Then you can set up your watch from the beginning.

Important: When you reset your watch to factory settings, all apps, settings, and data on your watch are erased.

Disconnect your watch from the Wear OS app

  1.  On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.

    Tip: If you use the companion app for your device, follow the companion app instructions.

  2. At the bottom, tap Advanced settings and then Forget watch.
  3. To confirm, tap Forget watch.

Remove the watch from Bluetooth memory

  1. On your Android phone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices and then Previously connected devices.
  3. If you find your watch on the list, tap it.
    • If it's not there, it's already disconnected. Skip the next step.
  4. Tap Settings  and then Forget and then Forget device.

Reset your watch to factory settings 

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.

  2. From the top of the screen, swipe down and tap Settings Settings and then System.
    • On some watches, you need to swipe left for this option.
  3. Scroll and tap Disconnect and reset Disconnect and reset.
    • If you don't find this option, tap Unpair with phone.
  4. To confirm, tap Done Done.

Set up your watch and phone again

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.

    Tip: If you use the companion app for your device, follow the companion app instructions.

  2. At the top, tap the Down arrow Drop down arrow And then Add a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions.
If you still have trouble: Uninstall the Wear OS app or your watch’s companion app, and reinstall it. Then try again.
