Here are some tips and tricks for using your watch.

Turn off the screen temporarily

You can make your watch's screen not light up or display notifications, even if you move your wrist or tap the screen.

To turn off your screen temporarily:

  1. If your screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. From the top of the screen, swipe down.
  3. Tap Theater mode Theater mode.
    • If you don't see Theater mode, tap Brightness Brightness and then Theater mode Theater mode.

To turn your screen back on:

  • If your watch has a power button, press it once.
  • If your watch doesn't have a power button, tap the screen repeatedly until it wakes up.

Turn off watch vibrations with Do Not Disturb

When you wear your watch, you can turn off watch notification vibrations with Do Not Disturb (DND).

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. From the top of your screen, swipe down.
  3. Tap Do Not Disturb Do not disturb
  4. Optional Wear 2: To choose which notifications to get when you have DND turned on: 
    1. From the top of the screen, swipe down.
    2. Tap Settings Settings and then Apps and notifications and then Override Do Not Disturb for...
    3. Choose the apps that you want to receive notifications from.

You can choose to have calls from favorites, reminders, and events vibrate your watch even when Do Not Disturb is turned on. Alarms will always vibrate your watch even when DND is turned on.

If you’re paired with an Android phone and are using Android Wear 1.5 and below, your watch will have the same DND settings as your phone. Learn how to check your watch’s version.

Turn off phone sounds when use your watch

When you wear your watch, you can turn off phone vibrations and sounds.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device. 
    • If you use the companion app, follow the app instructions.
  2. Scroll down and tap Notifications.
  3. Turn on Silence phone while wearing watch.

Get help from the Google Assistant

The Assistant on the watch can help you with many tasks throughout your day. To see what it can do:

  1. If the screen is dim, tap it to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe right until you see the Assistant screen.
  3. Tap the microphone and say "What can you do?"

You’ll see the Assistant suggest more things you can do, like "set an alarm" or "send a message". Tap an action to do it.

See personalized content from the Assistant

When you swipe your watch screen to the right, under the microphone you’ll see helpful content when it’s relevant. The information comes from your emails, the agenda app, and data from Google Maps.

If you then swipe up, you’ll see a list of info about restaurant, event, and travel reservations, as well as shipments, agenda items, commutes, and weather. For more details, tap the info.

Hide events from certain calendars

You can change your settings so that you won't get notifications or see events for certain calendars.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
    • If you use the companion app, follow the app instructions.
  2. Scroll down and tap Agenda Settings. If needed, choose a watch.
  3. Tap one of your calendars, like "Events."

Tip: Your calendar is hidden if the square next to it is an outline.
