Use the Google Assistant in Waze

Navigate, report, control settings and more using your voice. 

Note: The Google Assistant is only supported by Waze version 4.52 and up on Android devices in the US. It's currently only available in English. Your device may support Talk to Waze voice commands instead. Learn more

Turn on the Google Assistant in Waze

  1. Make sure the Google Assistant is turned on for your device 
  2. Open Waze
  3. Tap Search , then Settings 
  4. Under "Voice commands" tap Voice & sound
  5. Tap Google Assistant
  6. Turn on Enable Google Assistant

You can also:

  • Add or remove the Google Assistant microphone from the map by tapping Show on map.
  • Get more options by tapping “OK Google” detection.
Note: The Google Assistant replaces the Talk to Waze voice commands feature. 

Ask the Google Assistant to help you

  1. Open Waze on your screen
  2. Say “Ok Google” or tap the Google Assistant microphone on the map
  3. Ask the Google Assistant to help you with something in Waze

What you can ask the Google Assistant to do in Waze

Navigation actions:

  • “Take me home”
  • “Drive to work”
  • “Navigate to [Name of business or address]”
  • “Find gas stations”
  • “Find restaurants”
  • “Find parking”
  • “Stop navigation”
  • “What’s my ETA?”
  • “Show alternative routes”
  • “Show route overview”
  • “Show turn by turn directions”
  • “Recenter the map”

Reporting actions:

  • “Report traffic”
  • “Report [moderate, heavy, standstill] traffic”
  • “Report a crash”
  • “Report a [major, minor] crash”

Manage your Google Assistant actions in Waze

You can see and delete your past Google Assistant actions in Waze on your Assistant Activity page. To do this, you need to be signed in to your Google account and enable Web and App Activity.

Information shared with the Google Assistant

Waze shares some information about your route with the Google Assistant to perform certain actions for you. Among the types of information that can be shared:

  • When you are navigating
  • ETA
  • Destination details
  • Driving directions

For example, if you ask the Google Assistant “What’s my ETA?”, information about your route is shared with the Google Assistant to answer your request.
