Connect an email address to your Waze account

Connect an email address to your account so that you can recover your account and all your settings and preferences.

  1. Open Waze
  2. Tap 
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Scroll down and tap Account and login
  5. Tap Email
  6. Select the relevant option:
    • Continue with Google
    • Continue with email
  7. Follow the instructions to verify it

You can follow the same steps to edit the email address or Google Account associated with your Waze account at any time.

Why didn't I get a verification email?

 

If you didn’t get a verification email, try the following:

  • Make sure that there aren’t any typos in your email address
  • Make sure that you’ve entered your full email address – for example, 'username@gmail.com' instead of 'username@gmail'
  • Make sure that you’re in the inbox of the correct email address
  • Check your email’s spam folder for the verification code
  • Search for 'noreply@waze.com' in your inbox

Note: If your email inbox is on another device than the one you're using to log in, do the following:

  1. Open your inbox from a web browser
  2. Open the verification email and tap Verify email. A new tab will open with a verification code.
  3. In Waze, enter the code

Why wasn't my email verified?

If you weren't able to verify your email, try the following:

Option 1: Resend verification email

  1. Go back to Waze
  2. Tap Having trouble?
  3. Tap Resend verification email

Using email on your mobile device?

  1. Go to your inbox
  2. Open the verification email
  3. Tap Verify email

Note: You'll be taken back to the Waze app automatically.

Using email on a web browser?

  1. Go to your inbox
  2. Open the verification email
  3. Click Verify email. A new browser will open with the code.
  4. Enter the code in Waze

Option 2: Log in with a guest account for now

  1. Go back to Waze
  2. Tap Having trouble?
  3. Tap Continue as guest

Note: Continuing as a guest is a great option if you’re having trouble logging in, but need to use Waze now. However, to create your own personalizable account that you can recover if anything happens, you must verify your email. When you have time later, register your guest account by verifying your email.

Why doesn't the email have a verification code?

When you open the email on your phone, you should be taken to the Waze app automatically, with no need to enter a code. If you're using email on your computer, the code should appear in the body of the email.

Let's try again: 

  1. Open Waze on your mobile device
  2. Tap Log in
  3. Enter your email address
  4. Tap Next

Using email on your mobile device?

  1. Go to your inbox
  2. Open the verification email
  3. Tap Verify email

Note: You'll be taken back to the Waze app automatically.

Using email on a web browser?

  1. Go to your inbox
  2. Open the verification email
  3. Click Verify email. A new browser will open with the code.
  4. Enter the code in Waze

Why do I need to choose between two accounts?

You'll see the option to pick between two accounts if the email address that you’re trying to add to your account is already taken by another Waze account.

Note: You can only pick one account. The other will be deleted, including:

  • Favourite locations, like home and work addresses – learn more
  • Points and rank on the Waze scoreboard – learn more

You can’t merge accounts. The deleted one can’t be recovered.

I got the error 'Your account could not be updated'

If the account that you don’t pick has a Carpool balance, it can’t be deleted.

You can either:

  • Pick the account that has a Carpool balance

Or

  • Wait for the balance to transfer to your bank account, and then try again – learn how below

How to transfer the Carpool balance out of your account so that you can delete it

Step 1: Log in to the account that has a balance

  1. Go back and add a secondary email address to your main Waze account so that you can access it later
  2. Log out of your main Waze account
  3. At the Waze login screen, enter your preferred email address to log in. This way, you can access the Waze account with the Carpool balance.

Step 2: Make sure that your payment info is set up

Do this so that your Carpool balance can transfer to your bank account.

  1. Set up Google Pay and add your bank account
  2. Verify your bank account

Step 3: Wait for your balance to transfer

Any Carpool balance can now transfer to your bank account. This happens at the end of each month, and may take up to 15 days. Learn more about your monthly payment cycle.

Step 4: Switch accounts

After the payment cycle, your Carpool balance resets to 0. You can now add your preferred email address to your preferred Waze account, and delete the other one.
