Pickup & dropoff

Waymo One cars choose pickup and dropoff spots they’re able to best navigate, and these may be different from what you’re used to with a human driver. 

You may need to walk a bit

Many things can keep the car from pulling up to your exact spot, like:

  • Road closures
  • Traffic conditions
  • Construction or other temporary blockage
  • Pedestrians, bicyclists, or parked cars
  • Prohibitive parking rules (i.e., bus stops, red curbs, etc.)

When needed, the app will tell you a short walk is involved and give you a time estimate as well as directions to the pickup or your destination. On iOS devices, you can use our wayfinding feature to point you in the right direction with a compass and stated distance.

You can also visit the "Accessibility" page (found under the “Account” tab) in your app for options.

Meet your car when it arrives

While your car is on the way, the app displays how long the car will wait for you at pickup. 

On busy roads, your car may need to move to avoid blocking traffic. Otherwise, the car will wait up to 5 minutes before leaving. 

Once at pickup, the app will count down the remaining wait time. If you’re unable to meet the car before time runs out, you may be charged a no-show fee.

If you believe you were unfairly charged because your car needed to leave, please contact Support.

Choose your pickup or dropoff spot

You can see other options for pickup and dropoff by tapping the > symbol next to the location on your trip summary. 

If you'd like to manually set a spot on the map, follow these steps:

  1. Select Adjust on map from the ‘Choose your pickup/dropoff screen’
  2. Zoom and pan the map to find a more desirable pickup or dropoff spot
    1. Using satellite mode  may help you see the location surroundings better

  3. Tap Next if you made any adjustments
  4. Choose Request car to finalize

Even after adjusting, you may still need to walk to or from the car. If so, walking time will appear with your pickup and dropoff locations in your trip summary, and you can get walking directions in the app when the car is on its way.

Edit your pickup or dropoff

To select a different pickup/dropoff once you’ve requested a car:

  1. Go to "My trip"
  2. Swipe up on the bottom card
  3. Tap Edit trip
  4. Tap Options near your current pickup or dropoff to choose a new suggested location or tap Adjust on map
  5. Tap Next

Share your trip

You can now share your trip progress with friends and family. They'll be able to see your trip status in real time and know when you'll arrive. Once your trip starts, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and press the Share trip button.
