We want to make sure you know exactly what to do if you experience a collision with a Waymo vehicle — whether you're a rider, witness, or involved party.
For riders
If you're riding in a Waymo vehicle and experience a collision:
- Stay calm and prioritize your safety. If you're injured, call 911 immediately. You can also contact Support for assistance. When the Waymo vehicle detects a collision, the vehicle notifies Waymo’s Support team, who then reviews and confirms the crash.
- Please note, depending on the severity of the crash and other factors, the Waymo vehicle may continue driving after a collision occurs to reach a safe spot to stop.
- If you’re a teen rider using a teen account, we may contact your parent/legal guardian in the event of an issue or incident.
- If you feel it's important, you can exchange information or document the collision. Our on site support will also document it to ensure insurance details are captured. Our main focus is getting you to your destination safely, and we will help you hail another vehicle to get there.
- We provide limited medical coverage for our riders, regardless of who’s at fault or whether you have additional coverage.
For witnesses or other involved parties
If you're involved in a collision with a Waymo vehicle:
- If anyone is injured, call 911 immediately.
- Follow the collision guidance outlined by your local Department of Transportation, including moving to a safe location to exchange information.
- The Waymo vehicle may continue driving to reach a safe spot to stop, but look for our dome light signal, which indicates that the Waymo Driver is aware an event has occurred.
- You can easily exchange collision information with Waymo using one of the following options:
- Call us at 1-844-263-9885 to notify us of a collision
- Fill out a collision form online at waymo.com/notify
- Scan the QR code on either front door of the vehicle
- Contact insurance@waymo.com and/or download our insurance cards
- Wait for a Waymo roadside assistance representative to arrive on the scene
- For your records and potential claims, take photos of the collision scene once it's safe.
- Once you’ve exchanged information with us, you don't need to wait for a Waymo representative to arrive. Our team will follow up with you if needed.
