Hailing your trip
Riding with Waymo One | Hailing your trip
To learn how to set your pickup or dropoff location or adjust it mid-ride, read this article about pickups and dropoffs.
You can also add stops to your route.
The app will alert you when the car is one minute away and again when it has arrived at the pickup spot.
Getting into your car
Check out this video to learn how to easily locate your car and start your trip:
Riding with Waymo One | Getting into your car
A wayfinding feature at the bottom of the page helps you locate your pickup or vehicle with visual, audio and haptic cues.
When the car arrives:
- The app will inform you how long the car will wait
- The countdown timer stops once you open the door. You’ll then have time to load any necessary things.
- If you've boarded but haven't pressed START RIDE after some time, Support will call in to the car.
- If you don’t make it to the car in time, the ride will cancel and the car will leave. You will need to request another ride and you may be charged a no-show fee.

Unlocking the car
Tap Unlock in the app when the car arrives or you can set the doors to unlock automatically as you approach the car.
To have the doors unlock automatically:
- On iOS, make sure you’ve allowed Waymo to use Bluetooth (and that Bluetooth is on) and on Android, allow ‘Nearby devices’
- Go to Account > Preferences > Unlock automatically to turn it on or off
-
The car will unlock as you approach it. Should that not happen, you can always use the button in the app — it’ll still be there.
When you're ready to go, tap START RIDE. Don't forget to buckle up!
If needed, you can also access the vehicle’s trunk. See our Seating & guests page for more information.

In the event of a collision
In the event of a collision, please follow any instructions given by the autonomous specialist. Support may also contact you and can assist with arranging alternate transportation or calling emergency services, if necessary.
Our goal is to build the Most Experienced Driver to improve road safety, but an autonomous vehicle cannot avoid or prevent all collisions, some of which could result in injury or death.
