Your number was reclaimed

If your number was removed from your Google Voice account, you can add it back. Google Voice numbers must be added back within 30 days.

Get your number back

Your linked number was claimed
When your linked number gets claimed, that means you or someone else is using that number with another Google Voice account.
If you still own the linked number, you can add it back to the Google Voice account where you want to use it:
  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top left, click Menu Menu and then Legacy Google Voice. Google Voice will look different, but you're in the right place.
  3. At the top right, click Settings Settings and then Settings.
  4. Click the "Phones" tab.
  5. In the error message next to your forwarding number, click Reclaim this number. Google Voice will call your phone.
  6. A code will appear in the "Verify your Phone" window on your computer. Enter the code on your phone.
  7. After verifying, your linked number will be linked with your account again.
Your Google Voice number was reclaimed
You'll get a warning that your Google Voice number will be removed from your account. You'll also see the "reclaim date," which is the date that the number will be removed.
The number was reclaimed because you haven't used your Google Voice number for a long time.

Keep your number before it's removed

If you don't want to lose your number, do one of the following before the reclaim date:
  • Make or get a call with your Google Voice number
  • Send or get a text message with your Google Voice number
  • Open the Google Voice app on Android or iPhone

Get your number back after it's removed

After your number is reclaimed, your messages are still in your Google Voice account, but you can't get calls or texts.
After the reclaim date, you have 30 days when you can get your Google Voice number back.
  1. On your computer, open Google Voice.
  2. At the top left, click Menu Menu and then Legacy Google Voice. Google Voice will look different, but you're in the right place.
  3. On the left, select Get a Voice number.
  4. In the dialog, type your Google Voice number and click Search.
  5. Select your number from the results.
If you don't see your number in the search results, make sure you're signed in to the Google Account where it was linked before.
