The Translate app lets you translate in near real time while someone speaks a different language. For example, you can translate a classroom lecture or speech.
Transcribe spoken words
Important: To use this feature, in your device settings, turn on microphone permissions for Google Translate.
- Open the Translate app .
- Press Dictation Transcribe .
- If the Dictation button is unavailable, the spoken language can't be translated.
- At the top left, select the speaker’s language.
- At the top right, select the translation language.
- Your phone automatically starts to translate spoken words.
- To toggle between the speaker’s language and the translation language, in the toolbar near the mic, press Settings Show original text.
- To stop or end a translation:
- Stop: Press the blue mic . Wait for it to turn to a White mic .
- End: Press back .
Tip: To change your font size, in the toolbar near the mic, tap Settings .
Save your transcript
- After you’ve completed your transcription, at the top, press Save transcript .
- To access your saved transcripts on the Home screen, at the top, press Saved Transcripts.
Select, copy and share your transcripts
- To select text: In the transcript screen, touch, hold and drag the text.
- To select all the text in the transcript: Tap Select all.
- To copy the selected text to your clipboard: Tap Copy.
- To share text to other apps: Tap Share.
