What is the process of installing Google Tag Manager on a Squarespace site?

I'm trying to set up google tag manager on my square space site.

Do I need to uninstall google analytics before I do that and then reinstall it after GTM is installed?

Also, I already have custom code on the website and am not sure where to inject the GTM code.

Thanks so very much in advance for your help!

Andrea

Hi
following will be helpful to you re getting GTM setup on squarespace

If you are using GTM, then you will uninstall any GA tracking that you have and setup the GA tracking via GA tag in GTM

I appreciate the reply, but I need some more detail.

What I really need to know is whether I should uninstall google analytics before I try to install GTM.

Do you know what best practice is?

I'd get GTM installed.. then get a Universal Pageview tag configured within GTM and tested to see if it works as expected, and then uninstall the GA tracking.

Are you aware of Squarespace's limitations when it comes to Google Tag Manager? If your site is an E-Commerce site, you (currently) won't be able to add the GTM tracking code to the checkout/cart.

I've spoken to SS Customer Support about it and they refer me to Google for support, stating that the code simply isn't working, but that doesn't appear to be the issue. In my test case, the GTM code is added as it should be throughout the site (via Code Injection for header and footer) but NOT ON THE CHECKOUT/CART.

I hope you're not doing e-com since GTM does seem to work fine with Squarespace in general, but it definitely is limited when it comes to e-com.
