Community Template Gallery

The Google Tag Manager Community Template Gallery gives you as a Tag Manager user the ability to discover community-created tag and variable templates and add them to your containers.

Note: The content in the gallery is provided by third party developers, not by Google. Google makes no promises or commitments about the performance, quality, or content of the templates provided by third parties.

Browse the Gallery

The Community Template Gallery contains listings of all the active tag and variable templates that are available. To browse the gallery, visit tagmanager.google.com/gallery.

Each template detail page provides additional information about the template, the author, and any required permissions. The detail page will provide a link to the template's GitHub repository, and may also have author-provided links for additional information, documentation, and support.

Add a template from within Tag Manager

You can add Community Template Gallery tag and variable templates directly from within Tag Manager.

To search for and add a new tag template:

  1. From within Tag Manager, click Templates.
  2. In the Tag Templates section, click Search Gallery.
  3. To filter the list, click Search to open the search field and type some text e.g. "remarketing" to show all templates that contain that term.
  4. Click a template entry to view details.
  5. To add the template, click Add to workspace.
  6. Review the required template permissions. If you trust the template, click Add. (Click Don't add if you would like to cancel.)

Tag templates added to your container will be displayed as an available option when you add a new tag. You can use these tags like any other tag. The tag templates are also available in the Templates section in the Tag Manager user interface.

To search for and add a new variable template:

  1. From within Tag Manager, click Templates.
  2. In the Variable Templates section, click Search Gallery.

Variable templates added to your container will be displayed as an available option when you add a new variable. You can work with these variable templates like any other variable. These templates are also available in the Templates section in the Tag Manager user interface.

Update a template

If an imported template receives an update from the publisher, you will be alerted from within Tag Manager that an update is available via a notification bar at the top of your container's main screen.

To update a template:

  1. In the update notification bar, click View. A list of templates with updates will appear.
  2. Click the entry that you'd like to update. A page that compares the differences between the current version and new version will appear.
  3. To install the updated version, click Accept update. Field values and configurations will be retained between versions. (Or click Skip update to disregard this version.)
  4. If necessary, test and republish your container for the updates to take effect.

Edit an imported template (advanced)

Once a tag or variable template has been imported from the Gallery, you can edit it in the template editor. See the developer documentation for more information on how to edit custom templates.

Edits to custom templates can potentially break functionality. Template editors should be comfortable with JavaScript and should be prepared to roll back changes in case of any problems. Use this ability with great caution.

If a template is modified, it will no longer be updated when the template publisher provides an update. If you need to re-import a template from the community, you can discard changes and re-import the desired template so that it stays up to date.

Publish a template

If you wish to build and publish a template for submission to the Community Template Gallery, see our developer documentation, upload instructions, and style guide.
