About the Google Marketing Platform Certification Exams

Google Marketing Platform certification exams are designed to identify users with the ability to perform critical tasks and workflows with Platform products including Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager, Search Ads 360, and Creative. The exams are designed for users with real-world, hands-on experience using Platform products, and test on specific predetermined criteria aligned with critical job tasks. You can complete the certification exams on Academy for Ads, Google's online training program.



Anyone can take the Google Marketing Platform certification exams. Here are the benefits of getting certified:

  • Demonstrate knowledge. Show your Google Marketing Platform expertise with a personalized, printable certificate that you can print.

  • Help your company become a Google Marketing Platform Partner. To become a Google Marketing Platform Partners, companies need at least five affiliated members to have passed the Platform certification exams, in addition to other requirements. An Academy for Ads account provides access to the free certification exams (goo.gl/gmpexams) for Display & Video 360, Search Ads 360, Campaign Manager and Creative.

Display & Video 360 Certification Exam

The Display & Video 360 Certification exam covers programmatic and direct deal campaign setup including assigning inventory, goals, budgets, targeting, and creatives. The exam also tests on critical tasks and workflows related to troubleshooting, measuring performance, and optimization.

The knowledge tested in this exam typically aligns with the following roles:

  • Agency Traders
  • Programmatic Media Managers

Search Ads 360 Certification Exam

The Search Ads 360 Certification exam covers setting up Search campaigns across multiple search engines; assigning goals, targeting, and bid strategies; troubleshooting issues; measuring impact; and optimizing campaigns for improved performance.

The knowledge tested in this exam typically aligns with the following roles:

  • Paid Search Director
  • Paid Search Manager
  • Paid Search Supervisor
  • Paid Search Analyst

Campaign Manager Certification Exam

The Campaign Manager Certification exam covers planning, implementing, reporting, and troubleshooting reservation buys, while working across partners. It also assesses ad tag delivery, measurement, and troubleshooting methods used to optimize performance.

This exam covers broad product use from trafficking to reporting. Specialized roles (such as Agency Planners) may not be well aligned to the broad knowledge tested by this exam.

The knowledge tested in this exam aligns with the following roles:

  • Trafficker
  • Analyst

Creative Certification Exam

The Creative Certification exam covers rich media creative setup using Google Web Design and Creative to build HTML5 and dynamic creatives. It also assesses the steps to preview, QA, and publish creatives to Campaign Manager, and then measure results.The Creative exam doesn’t cover the creative component of Display & Video 360.

Users completing this exam should have experience with Studio and dynamic workflows, working with feeds, and the production of display ads with Google Web Designer and hand-coded creatives. This exam also covers knowledge related to workflow integration with trafficking and programmatic campaigns.

The knowledge tested in this exam typically aligns with the following roles:

  • Project Manager
  • Creative Developer
  • Designer/Animators
  • Creative Director

How to stay certified

Certifications will remain valid until expiration, at which time you'll need to retake the exam to retain certification.

How can I prepare for the Certification exams?

The best way to prepare for these exams is real-world, hands-on experience with Google Marketing Platform products. We recommend users refer to the exam descriptions for more details on the topics covered in each exam.


Why don’t I receive specific feedback on my performance after exam completion?

When you complete the exam you’ll see whether you passed or failed; however, you will not see feedback on your performance for specific exam content. The certification exams are not designed to report your level of knowledge, but rather determine if users meet pre-defined criteria for demonstrating the ability to complete critical workflows and tasks.
