Link Files will not download from Preview

Hello, I have all the documents on my Google site linked to preview before downloading.  It appears nothing will download this way now, unless I link it to download on click using the arrow on the left side. This was working before, why is it not working now?  I hate to have to relink 1000s of documents I have to support our sales team.

We're finding this to be an issue too - seems to be mostly but not exclusively .doc and .docx files affected. Affected files display fine in Preview mode, but when downloaded fails with 'Failed - network error' (in Chrome). This is really worrying as we have 100s of templates that staff need to download every day.

Further to the previous in this thread this seems to be the same issue as /sites/forum/AAAATAKBXDQFx5KWYEl8tM

I have also determined that the behaviour persists when files are uploaded to an individual page as well as the top level, including the File Cabinet page type.

Hey Simon,  I got this from my IT department when I reported the issue them.

Currently, there's a known issue that was already reported to Google engineers, they're already working on this. The issue is with the preview interface itself and there's a workaround to get to those files while they fix this: You can download the files directly from the page, instead of doing so from the preview interface.

It seems that, in some cases, there was an issue with an experimental protocol that is enabled in your Chrome browser. Could you please check if this protocol is indeed enabled for and if it fixes the issue when disabled? Here are the steps on how to do this:

1. Open a new tab in Chrome;
2. Enter chrome://flags/ into the address bar;
3. Locate ‘Experimental QUIC protocol‘;
4. Using the drop-down menu, select 'Disabled';
5. Restart Chrome.

Let's see if this fixes the issue, otherwise you will have to wait for the engineers' fix, but this is still worth the try.

Thanks Andy, that's really helpful. For us the issue is that we don't want users to be able to see all files in a section, so they are all uploaded to the top level and linked through, so downloading from the bottom of the page doesn't help in the short term - but great to know Google are working on it.

The QUIC protocol fix doesn't work for me - I've also tried it in Firefox and IE so doesn't seem to be a browser issue.

As of today the issue no longer appears for us and all links are working again.

Thanks! It's working for us again too! Thanks for being apart of the ride and not letting feel like I was the only one with this issue!
