Allow users to download item from new google sites without having to view it

I thought this was very basic but it seems not: I am using NEW google sites and all I want to do is allow users to directly download items (i.e., docs, gpx files etc) by right clicking on them. I do NOT want them to have to open/view them first. When I put in a link to an item (said item is in my google drive) on a new google sites web page and right click  and select "save target as" (in Edge) or "save target as" (in Chrome) it wants to save as htm, I want to users to be able to save the item instead. Apologies if this has been covered but what I did find referred to classic google sites

1.) get the id ( open in a new window the pdf file with google drive)
2.) Paste it here ( in the IDhttps://drive.google.com/uc?id=ID&export=download
3.) the link will auto-download

Many thanks for that ChiefChippy. It tried it and it works. However, I can't help feeling that there might be a simpler way (i.e., without having to go in and edit the link) and a way that would let a user also view it if they wanted to (sorry maybe I should have said "give them the OPTION of directly downloading it", i.e as would be standard in most websites/web creation software).

Well I mean when you embed a pdf, it is also viewing and downloading. Since you are iframing the pdf via google drive, you can also download it.
You cannot restrict users from downloading the pdf ( unless you check "Prevent viewers to copy / download, etc.," in sharing permissions which will be impossible for one to download, but you can create a link for users to directly download a pdf ( see my previous post).

And even that does not prevent technically skilled people to reuse the content.
Be aware if it's displayed on someone's screen then they can take a copy of it no matter what you do.

Sorry, I must not have been clear, happy for them to download it. Have done what you said and it is working so thanks for taking the time. The cutting/pasting/changing of links to get it to do what I have done effortlessly on loads of other pages seems to be inherent part of the google setup, bit of a shame especially if folks wanted to make many such items available to others. Thanks again.
