Fix template output errors

Because the data in your inventory feed is likely to change over time, templates that were successful at generating items may start producing errors depending on how your inventory feed has changed. 

Search Ads 360 provides several ways to find templates with errors. Here's one recommended flow:

  1. Navigate to an advertiser.
    Steps for navigating to an advertiser
    1. Click the navigation bar to display navigation options.

    2. In the "Agency" list, click on the agency that contains the advertiser. You can search for an agency by name or scroll through the list.

    3. In the "Advertiser" list, click on the advertiser.

    4. Click Apply or press the Enter key.

    Search Ads 360 displays the advertiser page, which contains data for all of the advertiser’s engine accounts.

  2. In the left navigation panel, click Templates.
  3. Click the Inventory plans tab.
  4. In the reporting table, click the Template errors column.
    Inventory plans with the most errors appear at the top.
    Sort inventory plans by the Template errors column.
  5. Click a link in the Template errors column. 
    For example, if the Template errors column shows 10 errors for an inventory plan, click the 10 errors link to see the plan's errors.

    The inventory plan's error report appears. The report contains one row for each type of error.
    The Items affected column shows the number of items that did not generate because of the error.

    For example, in the report below, 4 keywords did not generate because the template couldn't create keyword text.
  6. Click the Items affected column to find the error with the biggest impact.
  7. Click the link in the Items affected column to see the error's affect on generating items.
    A popup appears and shows items that didn't generate because of the template error.
  8. Look for patterns in the erroneous output so you can detemine what needs to change in your template or inventory feed.
  9. To update the template:
    1. Click Close in the error exmaples popup.
    2. Click the Inventory templates tab.
    3. In the reporting table, click  (gear icon) next to the item you want to edit.

      If an item isn't visible in the table, click ▶ next to a template to see the template's children.
      For example, click ▶ next to a campaign template to see ad group templates. Click ▶ next to an ad group template to see ad and keyword templates.

      Expand the campaign and ad group template in the reporting table.
    4. Update settings in the template.
    5. Search Ads 360 applies the updates the next time it evaluates the inventory plan.

  10. After Search Ads 360 evaluates the inventory plan, confirm that the errors were fixed:

    1. In the left navigation panel, click Templates.
    2. Click the Inventory plans tab and click the name of the inventory plan in which you fixed errors.
    3. Click the Inventory error report tab and confirm that there aren't any additional errors.
