Include custom Floodlight metrics and dimensions in Search Ads 360 reports

Use custom dimensions to filter a Floodlight column

Before you can use a custom Floodlight variable as a dimension in a Floodlight column, you'll need to specify in Search Ads 360 that the variable's data type is a dimension.

If you’re using custom Floodlight variables to pass dimension data to Search Ads 360, you can use the data to filter a Floodlight column in a Search Ads 360 reporting table. For example, if you’re using a variable to pass the name of the region where a conversion occurred, you can then create a Floodlight reporting column that contains only the data from specific regions.

  1. Navigate to a reporting table.
For example, navigate to campaign and click the Keywords tab.

  2. Click the Columns button, which appears above the performance summary graph.

  3. In the Available columns list, click ▸Custom conversions, then click Floodlight.

  4. To filter an existing column, click Click the pencil icon to edit.(pencil icon) next to an existing column.
    To add a new column:

    1. Click the Create a new column button.

    2. Name your column and select the Floodlight activities and/or Floodlight groups whose data you want to include in the column.

    3. Use the Metric list to select the metric you want to report on.

  5. Click the + Add Filter list and set up the filter:

    1. Select a custom dimension from the Select a custom dimension list.

    2. Select one of the following match criteria:

      • Equals: The column counts only conversions for which the custom dimension exactly matches one or more of the values you enter. (The match is not case sensitive.)

      • Contains: The column counts conversions for which the custom dimension matches all or part of one or more of the values you enter.

    3. Enter one or more values to match. The filter is not case sensitive.
Separate each value with | (vertical bar). For example:
      Northeast|Central

In the image shown below, if you select:

      • Equals: The column reports only those Actions for which the Floodlight tag specified "Hi" or "hi" in the "Customer value" dimension.

      • Contains: The column reports those Actions for which the Floodlight tag specified "Hi", "hi", "High", "Thing", in the "Customer value" dimension. Note that the filter matches if the string occurs anywhere in the reported data. So "Hi" matches "Chicago" as well as "Highest."

Specify criteria for matching dimension data.
If you use a custom dimension to filter a Floodlight column, the "Cross-environment conversions" check box is cleared automatically because a filtered column can't also display cross-environment conversions.  Previously, you could select both options, but the column would always display zero conversions.
    4. If you set up a segmentation group, an additional + Add Filter list appears just below the filter you created. Click + Add Filter to further filter the column with an additional custom dimension from the group.
An additional "Add filter" button appears if you've set up a segmentation group

If the additional + Add Filter button doesn't appear below the filter you created, make sure you've set up a segmentation group. Depending on how much Floodlight data you advertiser generates, you may need to wait a day or two after setting up the segmentation group before you can create additional filters.

    5. Optionally apply a data-driven attribution model or an alternate attribution model imported from Campaign Manager 360 to the data in the column. See which types of attribution models can be used with custom metrics and dimensions

    6. Click Save.

  6. Under Selected columns, drag and drop the new column to the desired location.

  7. Click Apply.

After you create a column that's filtered by custom Floodlight dimensions, you can do any of the following:

Note about reporting custom data for individual conversions:

Data about an individual Floodlight conversion—including data reported by custom Floodlight variables—is available for download in a Conversion report. Reporting tables in Search Ads 360 don't display data about individual conversions.
