Get started with Performance Max for store goals

Google Ads Performance Max allows businesses to promote products at physical locations like retail stores, grocery stores, restaurants, or auto dealerships, highlighting product-specific details and encouraging users to visit. This can expand online advertising through offline media or printed ads.

This article will guide you how to get started with Google Ads Performance Max with store goals.

Step 1: Set up a Location Group

Location groups allow you to more easily manage locations in your campaigns from within Google Ads. When you've synced your Business Profile and Google Ads accounts, or have added Chain locations to your account, these addresses are eligible to show across your account.

There are 2 ways to enable location assets in your account:

  • If you sell products or offer services at major retailers, the easiest way is to add chain store locations directly to your account in Google Ads (recommended).
  • If you can’t find your retailers in this list or prefer an alternative, you may also link to a Business Profile. Learn more about linking your Business Profile to Search Ads 360.

To set up a Location group:

  1. Sign in to your new Search Ads 360.
  2. Navigate to a manager, sub-manager, or client account.
  3. In the page menu on the left, click Ads & Assets, then Assets.
  4. On the “Assets” page, click the plus button , then select Location.
  5. In the page menu on the left, click New Location group.
  6. On the “Create a location group” page, enter a name for your location group
  7. Select locations from the list to add to your location group.
  8. Click Create.

Step 2: Build your asset groups or listing groups

An asset group is made from the images, logos, headlines, descriptions, videos, and audience signals you add when you create your Google Ads Performance Max campaign. These assets are automatically mixed and matched based on which Google Ad channel (YouTube, Gmail, Search, and others) your ad is being served on. You can use the ad preview editor to check possible creative asset combinations.
