​Use a feed to target Dynamic Search Ads and Performance Max

Existing Dynamic Search Ad campaigns may be eligible to upgrade to Performance Max, bringing you additional templates and formats to reach new customers. Advertisers who upgrade DSA campaigns to Performance Max view an average increase of over 15% in conversions or conversion value at a similar cost per action (CPA) or return on ad spend (ROAS).

Use a page feed to specify precisely which URLs to use with your Dynamic Search Ads (DSA). When you provide a page feed of your landing pages, it helps Google Ads to determine when to show your ads and where to direct people on your website. Learn more About Dynamic Search Ads.

Note: There is a limit of 100 page feeds per account.

Before you begin

Download the page feed data template (recommended) or create your own spreadsheet with at least 2 columns:

  • Page URL: This is the webpage you want to target. Enter one URL per row. Don’t use URLs with added tracking parameters. Learn how to Set up tracking for Dynamic Search Ads.
  • Custom label: This label will help you target ads within your page feed and adjust your bid per label. Enter one or more labels per row separated with a semicolon (;). For example, you can create custom labels for popular hotels based on their star rating. Each 4-star rated hotel can be labeled "FOUR_STAR"; "POPULAR_DESTINATION"; and so on.

Remove duplicate URLs

A duplicate URL is an individual feed asset that has the same URL multiple times in the page feed, even if different custom labels are used for each row. Before you submit your page feed, remove duplicate URLs.

Page feed URL best practices

  • Avoid URL duplication. Instead, use multiple custom labels for each URL to target specific dynamic targets. You can add as many as 20 custom labels for each URL.
  • Redirects should ideally be replaced with the final URL.
  • URLs shouldn’t contain any tracking parameters (existing tracking parameters won’t impact serving and may be removed periodically).
  • Cross-domain redirects will result in the URL being disapproved and should be removed.
  • Pages that aren’t crawlable by Google AdsBot or have crawl issues should be removed.

Instructions

Upload your spreadsheet

Follow these steps to upload your spreadsheet to your account:

Note: Before uploading, check the page feed for duplicate URLs. If you upload your page feed with duplicate URLs you will receive an error.
  1. Sign in to your new Search Ads 360.
  2. Navigate to a client account.
  3. From the Navigation menu, click Tools and settings .
  4. Under “Set up” click Business data.
  5. From the left navigation menu, click Data feeds.
  6. Click the blue plus button .
  7. Select Page feed from the drop-down.
  8. Enter a name for your feed.
  9. Select a source from the drop-down.
    • Upload a file: Select a file from your computer.
    • Google Sheets: Link an existing Google Sheet.
    • HTTP: Add the source link, username and password.
    • HTTPS: Add the source link, username and password.
    • FTP: Add the source link, username and password.
    • SFTP: Add the source link, username and password.
  10. Click Apply.
Tip: For new page feed uploads or existing page feed edits, it can take an average of 2–14 days for Google to crawl the feed (depending on the feed size). You may experience a delay before a page in the feed starts serving your Dynamic Search Ads.

Selecting targeting source

  1. Sign in to your new Search Ads 360..
  2. Create a Search campaign as you normally would, and during creation workflow, under the “Additional Settings” dropdown, and click Dynamic Search Ads setting.
  3. In the Website box, enter the domain URL for your website.
  4. Select one of the following:
    • Use URLs from my page feed only. This option lets you target based on custom labels, specific rules, or all web pages, but your dynamic ad targets will only serve on URLs in your feed. For example, if you have a “URL_Contains Flowers” target, it will serve all pages in your feed that have “Flowers” in the URL.
    • Use all URLs Google knows about the website (including any page feeds). This option lets you target custom labels, specific rules, and all web pages, and it works for URLs in your feed and from your website. For example, if you have a “URL_Contains Flowers” target, it will serve all pages in both Google’s index and your feed that have “Flowers” in the URL. If you use custom labels, you will still only serve pages from your feed, since those are the only pages with custom labels.
  5. Select one or more of your feeds to use with the campaign.
  6. Click Save.
Note: Make sure to remove invalid URLs from the feed.
