Reauthorise and verify the status of a Microsoft Advertising account

Microsoft Advertising allows customers the option to sign in with a work account. Search Ads 360 supports signing in to a Microsoft Advertising account with either a personal Microsoft account or a work account.

If you switch from a personal account to a work account, you must reauthorise Search Ads 360 to access your Microsoft Advertising account to avoid functionality issues.

When you link or edit a Microsoft Advertising client account in Search Ads 360, you’ll need to authorise the new Search Ads 360 to access your Microsoft Advertising account.

You may be required to reauthorise the new Search Ads 360 if changes are made to the Microsoft user account that was used to authorise it. For example:

  • The password for the external Microsoft user account is changed.
  • Other changes to the external Microsoft user account's security settings are made.
  • External Microsoft Advertising accounts are added or removed, or other structural changes are made.

If this happens, the new Search Ads 360 will prompt you to reauthorise.

Reauthorise Search Ads 360 to access your external Microsoft Advertising account

  1. In the new Search Ads 360, navigate to your Microsoft Advertising account.
  2. From the page menu on the left, click Settings, then click Account settings in the expanded menu.
  3. In the 'Authorisation' section, click the Reauthorise account button.
  4. Sign in to the Microsoft Advertising account in the pop-up window. Then select the client account number and grant Search Ads 360 permission to access and update information in your Microsoft Advertising account.

When you finish, you can run a sync to see if the authorisation succeeded.

If you click the Reauthorise account button again, Search Ads 360 will request authorisation again from your Microsoft Advertising account.

When you authorise an account, new Search Ads 360 will authorise all other accounts within the manager or sub-manager that was used to sign in that use the same set of credentials.

Verify the authorisation status of your Microsoft Advertising client account

To verify that the new Search Ads 360 is authorised to access your external Microsoft Advertising account:

  1. Visit https://account.live.com/consent/Manage and make sure that your Microsoft account has given access to Search Ads 360.
  2. In Search Ads 360, navigate to the sub-manager that will contain the account.
  3. From the page menu on the left, click Settings, then Sub-account settings in the expanded menu.
  4. Check the 'Sync status' column and see if the sync succeeded. If it failed, hover over it to see more details, including if it failed due to an authentication error.

Use a different Microsoft user account to authorise Search Ads 360

If you've added multiple users to your external Microsoft Advertising account, any user in the 'Super Admin' or 'Advertiser Campaign Manager' role can authorise Search Ads 360.

For example:

  1. You link the Microsoft Advertising account to your Microsoft user account.
  2. You sign in to the Microsoft Advertising account and add a user in the 'Advertiser Campaign Manager' role.
  3. The user in the 'Advertiser Campaign Manager' role can now authorise Search Ads 360 to access the Microsoft Advertising account:
    • Sign in to Search Ads 360 and start linking a Microsoft Advertising client account or editing an existing client account.
    • Click the Authorise account or Reauthorise account button.
    • Sign in to the Microsoft user account and grant Search Ads 360 permission to access and update information in your external Microsoft Advertising account.

If later you place this user in a role other than 'Super Admin' or 'Advertiser Campaign Manager', the new Search Ads 360 won't have permission to make changes in your Microsoft Advertising account. You'll need to reauthorise the new Search Ads 360 using a Microsoft user account with the 'Super Admin' or 'Advertiser Campaign Manager' role.

Create a read-only user for new Search Ads 360 support

If you ask the new Search Ads 360 support team for help troubleshooting problems with Microsoft Advertising, they may request read-only access to your Microsoft Advertising account. They'll use this access to sign in to Microsoft Advertising and review your settings or other issues that may be causing problems. Note that you have complete control over which accounts to share, and you can make changes as needed.

If the new Search Ads 360 support team asks for this access, they'll give you an email address to add to your Microsoft Advertising account. Once you have the email address, follow these steps:

  1. Visit ads.microsoft.com and sign in to your Microsoft Advertising account.
  2. Click the tools icon in the navigation menu and then click Account access.
  3. Click Invite user, then enter the following:
    • First name: SA360
    • Last name: Support
    • Email: Search Ads 360 support will provide this.
This is usually formatted as: DS-[your agency ID]-[your advertiser ID]@outlook.com.
    • Account role: Viewer (read-only access)
  4. Specify whether new Search Ads 360 support can view all your accounts, or select specific accounts.
We recommend that you grant access to all accounts in case you need help with other accounts in the future.
  5. Click Send.
  6. Let new Search Ads 360 support know once you've completed these steps.
