Example 1: Create a currency conversion instruction for a conversion action

A retail advertiser based in the United States maintains two separate sites, one for sales in the US, and another for occasional sales in Canada. Each site has its own Floodlight conversion action for reporting sales.

Last month, the two Floodlight conversion actions reported the following revenue:

  • US$2,000,000 from the Floodlight conversion action on the US site.
  • CA$10,000 from the Floodlight conversion action on the Canadian site.

If the Campaign Manager 360 advertiser associated with the Search Ads 360 sub-manager account specifies USD as its currency, the new Search Ads 360 assumes that the revenue being reported from the Floodlight conversion actions is in USD. To convert Canadian sales to USD, the advertiser creates a Floodlight instruction for the Floodlight conversion action on the Canadian site. The instruction has a source currency of CAD and a new currency of USD. As a result, the new Search Ads 360 calculates the total sales as follows:

The new Search Ads 360 correctly converts the CA$10,000. If the CA$10,000 is converted to US$9,600, the correct total sales is US$2,009,600. This is the value that appears in reporting in the new Search Ads 360.

In the new Search Ads 360, the currency sign of the converted value is the one set in the sub-manager account, not the destination currency.

Example

With an instruction to convert US$ to €, the new Search Ads 360 makes the conversion correctly and displays the converted value, but the sign is US$ – the currency set when the Search Ads 360 sub-manager account was created.

In Campaign Manager 360, paid search reports contain the raw numeric values from Floodlight transaction tags and don't assign or convert the value into a specific currency. In addition, Floodlight instructions in the new Search Ads 360 are not applied to data in Campaign Manager 360. As such, a paid search report in Campaign Manager 360 calculates the sales as follows:

  • Campaign Manager 360 adds 2,000,000 and 10,000 for a total of $2,010,000. In other words, the CA$10,000 is not converted to USD before the amounts are added together. This is the value that appears in Campaign Manager 360 Report Builder

Follow the steps below to apply this convert currency Floodlight instruction to the Canadian site sales Floodlight conversion action:

  1. Sign in to your new Search Ads 360.
  2. Navigate to a sub-manager account.
  3. On the navigation menu, click the tools and settings icon .
  4. Under “Measurement,” click Conversions.
  5. On the page menu, click Floodlight instructions.
  6. Click the plus button Add to create a new instruction.
  7. Click in the Select a type of instruction field and select Convert currency in the dropdown.
  8. Select CAD from the Original currency dropdown.
  9. Select USD from the Convert to currency dropdown.
  10. Click in the Apply this instruction to field, then do the following:
    1. Select “A conversion action".
    2. Select the “Canadian site sales” Floodlight conversion action.
  11. Click Save

You'll see the Floodlight instruction in the table. While the instruction is applied to new conversions going forward, in some situations (for example, data reprocessing), the new Search Ads 360 might also apply the instruction to conversions that occurred in the past.
