Portfolio bid strategies automatically set bids for every auction to help you reach the performance goals you choose. One portfolio bid strategy can apply to many campaigns, so you can save time by managing your settings in a single location.
Before you begin
Step 1: Use Search Ads 360 conversions
Google Ads Performance Max uses machine learning models to optimise bids and placements to drive conversions or conversion value for your goals, but you provide important inputs about what types of conversions are most valuable to your business – like the conversion activities you’ve set up in Floodlight. By sharing these conversion activities with your Google Ads Performance Max campaign, Performance Max will automatically optimise Smart Bidding to prioritise those types of conversions.
Step 2: Create a portfolio bid strategy with auction-time bidding enabled
Google Ads Performance Max campaigns can only be added to portfolio bid strategies that use Google Ads auction-time bidding and target CPA or ROAS bid strategies.

Add a Performance Max campaign to a portfolio bid strategy
- Sign in to your new Search Ads 360.
- From the page menu on the left, click Campaigns.
- Click the box for the campaign(s) that you’d like to edit.
- Click Edit and choose Change bid strategy.
- Choose a currency for your edits.
- Choose Use existing portfolio strategy and select a strategy from the list provided.
- Click Apply.
