Thank goodness!  And thanks again.
Worked like a champ!  Many thanks!
Many thanks for that clarification.  Google recently advised that in the near future, it will not be possible to turn IMAP off.  Will the pose a problem to those of us who wish to continue to simply POP/SMTP our mail?
STOP PRESS!!!

Well, it took a while, but those several-thousand messages are now pouring in.  I just should have waited, rather than having a hissy-fit.  "Patience is a virtue."  and  "Virtue is its own reward."

One more thanks for your guidance in getting 2-step authentication working. I followed your guide this morning and it worked a treat.  What you kindly provided in a simple, step-by-step format is exactly what Google ought to have in FAQs or wherever neophytes look for help.  Good man!
I do really appreciate the help, and hope you'll forgive my naïveté in electronic mail matters, but there are still a couple of things that aren't clear... probably because my mail client is dated and terminology may have changed.

You mention, "Requires SSL: Yes."  Well, I have no such option listed, instead here are the choices in Windows Live Mail under the Servers tab:
Log on using clear text authentication
Log on using secure password authentication
Log on using authenticated POP (APOP)
Additionally, under an Outgoing Mail Server heading there is a checkbox:
   My server requires authentication
...and then under Settings for that are two choices:
Use same settings as my incoming mail server
   Log on using:
      Account name
      Password

Other than these differences in terminology (I hope!), the other instructions you provided can be accommodated.  Thus my question boils down to, is the 'SSL: Yes' you mentioned something I've listed here? Sorry to be such a nuisance.
Exactly what I was looking for David; thanks so very much... I'll certainly give this a try.  Your instruction to use the App P/W, rather than the common one, was the key, I think.  Not clear in Google's instructions.

One question, must I use IMAP on the incoming mail setup?  I prefer POP if it will work
