It looks as if someone made the fix, as the old incorrected "painted church" entry in google maps shows as no longer exists. Thank you!
I use Thunderbird on all my desktops, and Google Calendar on Android. Glad to have an explanation as to why this is happening, but it's extremely annoying. On the web google calendar, Birthday calendar still shows up as a separate calendar from my "primary" account calendar, but yet as we've all discovered, every other application that interacts with a primary calendar that has birthdays in it, is getting birthdays shoveled into the primary calendar with no way to turn it off.

It seems that our only hope is that this 'birthday' flag is something that perhaps calendar developers will be able to detect while interacting with google, and then potentially expose a setting to users of their respective calendar applications that allows this to be turned on and off.

But obviously, Google will ignore all requests from users to return this back to how it used to be, and we're dependent on calendar application developers to fix Google's messes for them.

It's irritating that now on my Android phone, in order to not have my Thunderbird calendar polluted with Birthdays that are the same color as all my other 'primary' events (really throws me off), I have to uncheck the 'sync from contacts' buttons - and now I have no birthdays at all appearing on my android phone either.

Why the heck did Google think this was something that needed to be changed for no reason?
Request removal of duplicate church in Hawaii
Google Maps•1/9/2025
Hello, I'm a long time Google Maps editor, and usually my edits are approved, but this one for some reason is not being accepted. There is a famous church on the big Hawaii island, called - only as a nickname, "The Painted Church." But the actual name of the church, is "St Benedict Catholic Church"

Here is the incorrect, duplicate church Maps URL: https://maps.app.goo.gl/x7yXxrHAPrhW2WXo9
Here is the correct church Maps URL: https://maps.app.goo.gl/x6ed25F3oRhCgNiQ6

On Google Maps, "The Painted Church" has the wrong address, 84-5133 Painted Church Rd, Captain Cook, HI 96704, and is on the wrong side of the road. The correct Google Maps entry has the correct address: 84-5140 Painted Church Rd, Captain Cook, HI 96704. I am trying to use the Report function in Google Maps, to report "The Painted Church" as a duplicate of St Benedict's across the street. However, my edit requests are being rejected. Possibly because there are a lot of reviews and pictures for the incorrect entry; however the point stands that all the pictures and reviews should be merged into the proper entry, which is St Benedicts.

You can see right there on that website in the header image, that the correct address is listed: 84-5140 Painted Church Rd

That is the indelible proof that "The Painted Church" google maps entry is wrong, and should be removed/merged into "St Benedict Catholic Church"

I humbly suggest to the admins of Google Maps, that my edit request be accepted. Otherwise tourists searching for the Painted Church are going to turn into a random home's driveway and not the church on the other side of the street slightly up the road!

Hey folks - so what messaging applications DO still work with google assistant? i just got a new S10+ 5G and was excited to try it with Android Auto... but it seems like only the default SMS application actually works to send new messages. The dumb thing is, if someone sends me a telegram or Google chat message, I can reply to it no problem... but I can't initiate a new message with either of these, my main chat programs.

So what is working for you guys?

Are we sure this is a google assistant issue? I.E. maybe google changed something in assistant and required application developers to update their systems to support it, but telegram hasn't yet? Is there any forum pages for telegram that state "yes, it should be working according to google's own programming requirements for making messaging apps work with google assistant/android auto" so we can definitely blame this on Google?
Yes, we are installing Chrome For Enterprise for all our domain users.

However, this is a setting I just want for myself. I don't want to add it to a GPO.

Are you, then, confirming that --ignore-certificate-errors indeed no longer works as a launch option?

Basically, I just want a way to disable cert checks LOCALLY on my own machine. I don't care if it's a chrome://flags option or a parameter I can pass to the executable.
Launch parameter ' --ignore-certificate-errors' no longer working on Chrome v102
Chrome Enterprise & Education•6/1/2022

However, this morning Chrome notified me it had installed a new update, and now this parameter is not working anymore.

Can anyone at Google confirm that this functionality has been taken away from us, or no? Should it still be working?

My windows shortcut to Chrome is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --ignore-certificate-errors

But when I visit my internal sites now I get the pointless "NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID" - yes, I know it's invalid, I created the cert file. I don't care about this warning, it just slows my work down.

Play counts helped remind me as to whether or not I'd remembered to listen to a new album or not. Stop removing features from perfectly good products, and then releasing inferior products as replacements. That's not how progress is supposed to work. If GPM had to die, fine - it's your product. But make the thing that replaced it better, not worse.

Give us the play counts. Which GPM had. For years. Already. How much simpler do we music listeners have to spell it out for you?
It's official. I tried to use Google Play Music on my Android Auto screen yesterday, and when I used the Assistant/voice command function to "play album name" she responded with (to paraphrase) "You can use Youtube Music to listen to Music now. You don't have Youtube Music installed. Goodbye."

And that was that. Thankfully I had plex installed on my phone with a few hundred songs so I was able to get some music listened to in the car but yeah, Google - thank you so much for this changeover. I love it. GPM still works. You're still offering it for at least another few weeks. Why did you break it in Android auto?
Dear Google - you are developing an unfortunate habit of replacing perfectly good things with inferior replacements. Hangouts had SMS integration. It had a widget. You slowly removed features, year after year, and then you say you are killing that off soon too.

Google Play Music and Youtube Music is the same way. Play Counts are a reasonable data point to want to make smart playlists off of, or sort by. GPM has them visible to users and I can at least sort by them.

Please stop giving us inferior versions of apps we already had. If you're going to replace something, make it better.
Thanks, this solved the issue I've been having for a couple months with the Thunderbird extension "provider for google calendar" - basically, until making this useragent change, whenever I'd try to sync the calendar I had in thunderbird with gcal, it would pop up new window with the google authentication sign in, I'd fill it out and give permission, but then as soon as the sync happened, the same window would just pop open again.

Changing the useragent changed the appearance of the pop-up window to a more "modern" (whatever; the old one was fine) appearance, and this time when the sync happened, my status bar read "reading 1000 events from gmail..." for a few minutes, then everything appeared up to date in my Lightning. Hooray!
This would be a great feature. I have at least 2-3 email addresses (usually gmail of course) per contact, and often 1-2 phone numbers for every contact. On my phone, i can specify a "default" for each.

I'd like Google to either read that phone-based setting (unlikely) or let us specify a default in google contacts, so that it doesn't ask me every time which number I want to call, or which email address to send a Hangouts message to

If it would clarify "this will be sent to the default address you have specified for this person, which is _____@gmail.com" for the first time you send messages that day, that's fine.

But my goal is to be as hands-free as possible and also be as quick as possible. Don't bother me with things like "which address/phone do you want to use? the first which is yadda yadda, or the second which is yoda yoda?" - just say "the default" and tell me what it is for this session.

Seems like a pretty basic thing.
Yes, I have repeatedly provided "feedback" through the google home app. But it would be nice to see a real, live Google Dev around here at least telling us WHY a useful function was killed.
